Default EDR Event Data Recorder 2008 Mustang Convertible

Any experts here regarding that nice little box?

Our firm is currently investigating a 2008 Convertible owned by a rental car agency. Having one heck of a time finding anyone who knows much about the EDR in this particular car and what it's capabilities are

Have called several Ford dealers and most mechanics don't know what the EDR is let alone it's capabilities.

Without getting into too many details of an ongoing litigation: We believe the car was involved in a minor rear end collision (Bumper and small sheet metal damage) then later rolled in an accident

The question we are trying to answer is: What does the EDR record, how long is the data retained, would the EDR record any information that did not deploy air bags

Thanks for any help

I am probably wrong about this. But I remember when the event recorders were first introduced that they recorded the last 15 minutes. And then again, I may be brain farting.

this might help some: but they probably will charge for data recovery of it.

Thanks

We don't mind paying at all, but already contacted Harris and to be honest, we received a very vague reply and the "agent" I spoke to was only interested in selling his seminar and software

We would be more than willing to purchase both, but their website listing vehicles with EDR's stops in 06 and the "Agent" couldn't tell me if the Mustang was equipped and what it was capable of.

I got the impression of "Buy our product then you will find out if it is useful"

We would be more than happy to pay the $2,500.00 for software and whatever the seminar covers, IF the equipment covers the Mustang (Though I see us buying it eventually as this looks like the future of Insurance investigations)

And just for the "record," though I do this for a living, I do not like the idea of EDR's in Autos being available to anyone but the NH Safety for improving safety standards, I don't think we should have a "trooper" in our personal auto or a device we supposedly own that can testify against us

I'm just pursuing an investigation under current standards

Any of you that aren't aware of where this EDR stuff is headed should do some research, it really is "Big Brother" and very scary

it would be nice if the sales agent would actually know something about their product. they probably use the bosch software that shows to 04 mustang.

bosch has an agreement with ford for the data so check Bosch Diagnostics it's bosch's site and has a phone number to call for more info. you probably already have this but just incase.

i don't care for EDRs either.

i understand why fleet vehicles (ie. taxis, rentals) would have them but not personal cars. until the courts say that the vehicle owner owns the info that the EDRs contain and they can do what they want with it, including to turn the recorders off, we're in for a world of problems.

from what i've seen the HNTSA has not made them manditory but just set the standards that won't take effect until 2010.

Hey People

Thanks for all the replies

Unfortunately, Bosh contracts with Harris and sends all the inquiries there, and Harris has not updated their website nor does anyone know what/if the EDR in the 08 Mustang can do

This post was brought to my attention. I do not believe anyone contacted us (Harris Technical Services) regarding an EDR in a 2008 Mustang recently. We do not sell or advertise seminars, software or hardware of any kind. We are accident reconstructionists serving attorneys and insurance companies. We do not sell any products.

We do not have a contract, or any other business arrangement, with Bosch. Bosch does not, to my knowledge, recommend us over any other EDR service provider that has their CDR Tool equipment and software.

The vehicle coverage list on our web site is the most up to date version available from Bosch. Bosch depends on the vehicle manufacturers to provide information to them. There has been a considerable lag time between the introduction of new vehicle models and the release of the required software and hardware to access EDR data in later model vehicles.

As of 18 Aug 2008, Ford coverage extended to 2007 model vehicles including the Mustang. I can provide the data elements that this model is capable of recording but not the 2008 model.

If a vehicle is NOT listed then the EDR data cannot be recovered using the Bosch equipment. If it is added to the list with a later version of software/hardware, then it may be downloaded once that release is available. Until then, it may be wise to remove and hold certain components from the vehicle for later data extraction.

The cost to recover EDR data depends on the efforts and time required to include travel time and costs. However, EDR data alone is insufficient to analyze a crash as additional information is required to validate the EDR data points.

We have a list of EDR data recovery service providers throughout North America you can contact directly.

If you got a vague answer on EDRs from someone claiming to represent Harris Technical Services, please call my office at (772) 336-2279.

Wow...I guess that answers the age-old question:

if a post is made on the net does the manufacturer/service provider ever hear it ?
