Default 2008 Mustang GT... Have $3,000.00 - need performance upgrade advice

First let me say I am happy to be back in a new 2008 Black Mustang GT. I have been out of a mustang for about 15 years. I previously owned a 1986 Mustang GT and then a 1989 Mustang GT back in the day.

Now that I have my new mustang I would like to make some modifications to the vehicle but not sure where to start. I am sure this is a question that is often asked so I apologize in advance.

My goal is to see if I can get 400hp without a supercharger. Is this possible? Is this smart?

I would like to maintain the warranty if that is possible. If not, oh well and of course this is a daily driver.

Again, I am happy to be back in a Mustang and glad to be on here.

Welcome to AFM... There's plenty you can do. Poke around the 2005+ talk and tech sections for lots of ideas. I was able to hit 400 rwhp while staying naturally aspirated but my car is not very street friendly. Most will tell you to just go the supercharger route.

Well, 400hp is beyond a Cam swap, Headers, CAI, programming, Throttle Body... etc. You are talking stroker cranks and heads to get there.

350 N/A is very doable for not too much $$.

At $3000. I would suggest, CAI and 93 Tune. Long Tube Headers, a Nice set of axle Backs, a 4.10 gear, a shifter of your choice. Charge Motion Plates, and if you have the money left over, a set of Stage III cams. But, this would fit the budget only if you do all the installs your self.

Biggest hitters, CAI and tune, Gear, and Headers.

I agree. CAI/tuner, LT's & gears will probably eat up much of that. Depends on how you shop. Headers/midpipe can range from about $800 to $1400 depending on brand and where you buy them. I say do those 3 and a set of axle-backs (Violators sound great and are under $200) and that should have you right at the $3K range. Maybe a hundred or two left over. May have some change left over for UCA/LCA's as well.

Real popular sites for mods:

Brenspeed (BRENSPEED, BBK BMR SCT STEEDA MAC PYPES SLP MUSTANG PERFORMANCE PARTS)
Steeda (Welcome to Steeda.com | Performance Suspension, Engine and Syling For Your Ford Mustang)
Summmit Racing (Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts | 800-230-3030)
American Muscle (Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle)
CHE Performance (CHE Performance Products)
BMR Fabrication Inc. (BMR Fabrication Inc.)

Ebay is good too. You can try RPMOutlet, but do so at your own risk. Many members have gotten the shaft from them, but some have had nothing but success with them. Maybe it depends on how much you spend. Isn't that right Mark?

Good luck!!
