Default 2005 Mustang GT... My mod plan--need your thoughts & opinions

Well, I have decided to give up in my quest for cams temporarily in favor of doing a stroker motor in late 2008/early 2009. I want to do the internals, heads and cams all at once. I'm still skeptical about FI, mostly due to all the S/C problems people seem to have (could just be my imagination). And doing things differently is just the way I like to do things.

Anyway, I was wondering what everyone's opinion was about a stroker kit. I have always been interested in it and the latest issue of MM&FF put me over the top on this decision. I'm estimating ~$10K for parts and labor (that will be a LOT of overtime at work this year, LOL!). Not sure about which heads to get either, but will definitely be going with the COMP Stage III's/springs/retainers. Not really in it for numbers. Just want a fun street car that may occassionaly see the track and fufill my need for modding and POWER.

Other mods for 2008 would likely include:

3K stall TC (hopefully early 08)
1-piece D/S (hopefully mid 08)

Any thoughts or opinions on this setup? Any way to make it better?

Here is a link to the kit I was looking at:

FORD RACING HIGH-FLOW CNC PORTED CYLINDER HEADS 4.6/5.4L SOHC 3-Valve

Thanks.

Uh.... Willy? i thought you were throwing in the modding towel after you got the CS front fascia. i guess you had this teeny tiny project saved for a rainy day.

It all sounds sweet. good luck with it in the future.

just watch out for RPM Outlet

Are you talking an all new short block or adding a stroker kit to the existing motor?

I was thinking just the kit, but I just looked at a block on MMR's website and while it is more expensive than the kit, I would imagine the labor would be cheaper over the long haul since there wouldn't be the need to disassemble the old engine other. And I might be able to get some change back for the old engine on ebay or something.

I thought I read somewhere that there is a lot of added stress on the engine when going the stroked route. Is this true and if so, is it something to consider/worry about?

Compression is actually reduced from 9.8:1 to 8.8:1 with the stroker.

Having a MMR stroker block installed right now. MMR told me to stay with stage II cams for streetability. I don't street race but intend on driving car to work, less than a mile away through a 25 mph zone. They use a new 04 Cobra block and the one I have is rated at 950 rwhp, so...should easily handle my hp goals.
Still about 3-4 weeks away from a dynotune and trackday though, so my whole setup is still very much theory right now.

I think that'll be a nice combo.

What is the compression ratio exactly? I think I have a clue, but I'm not really sure.

It's really what measures engine performance. It's the volume difference when the piston is at the top of the stroke vs the bottom of the stroke. Higher compression=greater energy.

Ok, that's kinda like what I was thinking, but thanks for clarifying. I'm starting to think that just having the entire engine built is a better and eaiser way. Good thing I have a year to work this out.

You think the 3K stall T/C is still ok with this setup?

With a cammed built block the 3000 should be just fine.

Hey Willy, what are the s/c problems you are refering to?

I don't know. It just always seems like someone is having belt/tensioner issues. Like I said, I'm probably just over-reacting to a couple of threads that I have seen. Either way, I feel like this is a good step in the right direction if I want to go that route in the future. Doubt it will happen, but who knows? I'm always changing my mind on stuff.
