The forged steel crankshaft (Mustang) line is running cranks now. About 7 weeks to Job1 for production !

I know everything is still highly speculative but I'll ask you anyway.

Many say the Coyote is a 2011 production item. Given that job 1 appears to be taking place in November/December, will Ford start selling 2011 Mustangs as early as January of 2010? Or could this be a running change to 2010? I doubt the latter as too many people will complain if their 2010 special order misses the new engine by one build day. I guess since the 2010 has been out since April of this year January of 2010 isn't too late to sell the 2011.

From what I know the coyote engine is for 2011 model year. That means 2010 will be a short model year. Considering that the 2010 Mustang was in the original plan as a 2011, and a decision to build the new model with the existing power trains was made. This in part because the 4.0 V6 contract with the union in Germany required building engines until August of 2009. With Explorer sales way down that left a lot of 4.0 engines on pallets. So the engine program is on track for the 3.7 and 5.0, it was the body updates that were pushed ahead because of the new Camaro intro.

Nice, is only the crank forged or is it all forged? God that would make me absolutely giddy...

Any updates? I've been following the 2009 SEMA show hoping to hear something official from Ford, no idea when that would come though. Anyone have any news?

Think you'll just have to wait another month.

Yes, the news for the last 3 weeks has been that the official intro is at the LA auto show. The SEMA show will be for a "back stage" intro for companies involved in the Mustang aftermarket. Production Engines will be headed to the dyno rooms for the final check and then the "numbers" people are waiting for will be released. The line is actually ahead of schedule. As with Ford's new rating all engines that pass must make at least the rated horsepower. Some will make more. The 6.2 was rated 411 but I have heard that many are making closer to 425 on average. The lowest should make 411hp. Better to be conservative with the ratings so that owners are happy that they got more than they thought is the current thinking.
Well only about 3 weeks to Job 1 so Essex engine is a busy place

If you just can't wait and have an extra $21K laying around, here's what Shelby can do.

I wonder what the new 5.0s are going to sound like! Right now stock GTs sound better than the camaro and handle better. So I hope Ford has something hidden up their sleeves!

I'm hearing 425 HP advertised, with the Coyote actually making 468 HP @ the crank on the dyno. Have you heard anything to confirm this?

Holy crap, if that's true there's no way I'm not getting one. A mildly option GT would cost you $35k and then spend another 5-6k on a supercharger and you have yourself a GT500 for $10k less...
