Does anyone have specific details on how the 2010 mustang sound induction works? Drawings? Part numbers? Sounds like a hoot to drive. Can anyone with experience tell me their opinion?
Is that the tube that carries sound from the engine to the firewall? That is some silly funny **** right there.
I thought it was a great idea! Ford added sound dampening material to reduce unwanted noises, but then did something to preserve the great sounds that are distinctively "Mustang."

The tube comes off the factory air intake and is ported directly into the passenger compartment through the firewall on the drivers side to introduce some engine intake noise into the passenger compartment to complement the (external) exhaust sound. The thumbnail pic is of just the tube. Click on the attached file to see the tube as it fits in the 2010 engine compartment.

I guess the whole idea seems a little silly to me.
Remember back in the old days, you could flip the top of the air cleaner over and get a lot of sound out of the carburetor. This is the modern version of that. I think BMW has done it in several of their cars lately. The sound comes on when you've got the throttle pinned and while the engine is well subdued at normal throttle settings, it makes some pretty soul stirring noise when you want it. Kind of the best of both worlds. It's an interesting concept to me.

Its not your typical looking after market CAI with a cone filter. The air that comes in is somewhere from behind your headlamp if i remember reading right. Never looked into it or under the hood of a 2010 to tell you for sure.

I asked a sales guy if I could start a 2010 GT. I revved the engine and found little difference in the sound. I saw the tube, but the induction of sound is minimal. Perhaps on the highway..
The reason for my question comes from the fact that I am having my car dynamatted this weekend and I hate to lose all the growl from the engine. I'll let you know if I lost a lot of it.
If I did, it will be time to install headers and design a tube of my own!! LOL

I finished dynamatting mine a couple of weeks ago. I can say that I hear the engine and even a little exhaust when getting on it just fine. I have GTA's and can still hear them on acceleration. The main reduction is in road noise and the stereo sounds a lot better.
Make sure they do a good job in the doors- that was the single most noticeable change when I did mine.

I went to see it yesterday and I really like what the shop is doing. I saw that the inside shell was lined, as well as the whole outer shell. The plastic lining was gone. The sales rep for the material was there, ensuring that the product was installed correctly. He has been courting us to show my car in his booth and is giving us the material free.
I already have a sponsorship agreement with the shop so the install will be virtually free. I don't know how much it will be, since I am having the bumpers reshot with clear, hoop pins installed, new racing belt and a couple of accent lights in the engine compartment and inside the cabin. Will post pics on those mods later.

I spent close to $400 on the Dynamat and took around 18 of my own hours to complete the job. Paying a shop to do that would be prohibitive. I had to do the interior in two stages so I just about doubled my time on that part. I also went back into the doors and installed the sheet and a half I had left over. In my opinion it was worth it. I still can hear the engine and exhaust when I want to, and the road noise is diminished noticeably.
