Default Couple questions about my mustang...

First, I was wondering...you see that most GT Premiums are offered with the 18" wheels and the track pack is offered with 19" wheels. Is there a reason for that? I ordered mine with the 3.73 gear package, and also got the 19" wheels. Is there a reason I should have gone with 18" wheels instead? Is there something about the 19" wheels that requires the track pack?

Next, I notice some stangs come with the strut brace over the engine and some do not. What is the requirement that for it to be on there..and will mine have it?

The one I ordered is the GT premium coupe with 3.73 rear axle package and 19" wheels.

also, does the aluminum shift knob come on all premiums or is it part of one of the trim packages?

I can field one of the questions at least. 18" is always better in general if you're performance minded. The Track Pack comes with 19" Pirelli Summer tires that are specific to the Track Pack's handling characteristics. They're an important part of the total package and they only come in 19". Did you get the Track Pack lite with only the 3.73 gears?

I didnt get the track pack, I got the 3.73 gear package and ordered it with the 19" wheels because I liked the look of them better. I'm guessing the tires that come on it will be the all weather tires and not the summer tires. The summer tires come for the track pack right? And the non track pack tires will be all weather, even if they are 19"...or do ALL 19" wheels come with the summer tires?

This car is not going to be a track car. It's going to be a normal driving car....I MIGHT take it to the drag strip once or twice..that is not really a big factor in my driving. I just got the 3.73 gears for the acceleration feel when you get on the throttle.

Do you think it would be in my best interest to try and get the wheels changed to 18" before the car is shipped? I dont know if it's too late or not, as the last time I checked, the car was in production (i guess that means it was being built), and that was yesterday.

I guess the main question is, if I stick with the 19" will that hinder the cars acceleration, handeling, or performance?

I don't suppose the dealer would swap the wheels off one of their cars on the lot for the 19's mine will come with, dunno if that would devalue their car or cause some issues with the sticker of their car...or legal issues.

I got the 19's becuase of the way they looked.

Appreciate any advice.

Correct, you'll get All Season 19's. I wouldn't worry at all about swapping for 18's. If you were racing or really cared about getting every performance advantage on the street, I'd say go 18" since smaller is better. But based on what you've said, 19's are fine. You won't notice the difference in everyday performance.

You will also get the strut tower brace since you ordered the 19" wheels. The aluminum shift knob should come with the 401A premier trim package for GT Premium.

Post some pics when the car comes in!

thanks for the replies. glad that the 19's wont make much difference. those are the wheels I wanted, but i just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to affect the acceleration or every day performance any

I will post pics as soon as I get it. I believe the car is already built...but for some reason, it wont ship until the 12th and my delivery date isnt until the 31st. I'm hoping it gets pushed up and I get it sooner.

i didnt get the 401a spec, so i'll have the normal shifter. how hard, if I want to, is it to change out the shifter knob? do you have to change the whole shift boot or just the knob, and is it a matter of loosening a screw and pulling the old one off?

A larger wheel size (if it's the same wheel type) usually just adds a few pounds. Although smaller wheels might be better for drag and straight grip (less weight and ability for low tire pressure increases tire contact surface), a larger wheel size creates a shorter tire wall. This allows less wall flexing under heavy cornering, and from a handling standpoint, does allow better handling. 19's will be fine.

Thanks VA_Ford, you answered my question about the strut bar! I was worried that it wasn't going to be coming on my car. Thanks
