by the way i have owned both the V8 and the V6 a couple of straight sixes as well .. since i'm old enough to know better ...i'd rather spend my money on accessaries for looks rather than 2 extra cylinders dont doesnt matter when i drive with the cruise control set on the speed limit anyways .
some people just don't get it

My opinon... don't buy one. Not practical. There is a great selection of other cars that get better mileage, more power, better resale value, and look better. Don't get me wrong the Mustang is a great car, but in V8 form. I've driven them both and I was truly disappointed with the V6 and to be completley honest I was disappointed with the V8 too for 2010, so I await the arrival of the 2011.
I understand your desire to get the mustang and have that sporty look, but wait until you can afford the GT it will make it that much sweetier when you finally do get it.
Don't take my word for it though go drive some cars, like Boardingbilly said try the new vw gti or gtd they are plenty quick are about the same cost as the 6 cylinder mustang hold there value really well and get way better mileage, plus the gtd is diesel so your paying less for fuel too. You mentioned in you first post the accord, I would much rather have that, better mileage and its gonna last a hell of a long time. Obviously if you gave me the choice of the accord or the V8 mustang I would take the mustang.
Just think whats gonna be best for your situation, sounds like you need a good reliable car with good mileage, a good warrenty, and a decent resale value, the mustang really is at the low end of the spectrum in all the categories, the magazines tell the story. But if your mind is set about getting a V6 pony car just drive the camaro once and your mind will be made up. I was reading about all of these guys doing all this work to their V6 mustangs just to keep up with a GT mustang or slightly beat it when the V6 camaro (300 HP) will practically do that stock. Plus way more technology in that car, IRS, 6 speed, better mileage, direct injection (makes power capabilities much higher) the price is close and the magazines praise that car. I've also driven the SS and wow, thats why I can say I was disappointed with the GT this year, but I have faith and loyalty in the blue oval and I know there gonna bring it hard next year.
I love fords and mustangs and i've owned and driven many, but I also know that my needs come before my loyalty to any car company and if I can get a better suited car for my needs then one produced by Ford I would have to say I would need to invest in it, though Ford hasn't let me down yet.
Anyway don't let these guys try to get you into a car that isn't going to be a good choice for you.
Good luck with your choice let us know what you deceide

Hey Panda305 maybe I can answer your question.
Pros: The looks, it has some juevos, it sounds good for a V6, nicer interior then the 2005-2009 S197s, people really like my car, ITS A MUSTANG
Cons: The 3.6L is supposedly coming out soon, some people will look down on you because you couldn't afford the GT's insurance.
The only problems that I have had with my 4.0L is that when it gets cold the belt squeeks but once it warms up it goes away. Hopefully you can weed your way through the V6 bashing that will come from people (only have I heard V6 bashing on here not on any of the other Mustang forums where I am a member of or of any of the people that I have talked to). Good Luck with your choice and I hope that you become part of the Mustang community no matter what engine you chose.
P.S. Let me just say something WTF is up with you guys? Why are you bashing on other peoples Mustangs. You call yourselves Mustang fans but you squabble over something as stupid as having 2 less cylinders in your cars. You guys should be ashamed to be calling yourselves Mustang fans. When people love their cars no matter the fact that it is a V6 or a V8 or a I4 there is something special about it that Mustang. You guys should be ashamed

If your happy with your car thats all that matters!
I still don't understand the V6 craze but if thats what your in to you should get one. It sounds like you enjoy the looks and if its your first instinct its probably a good one.
Also, if you have not driven a 05-09 GT I would suggest driving one just for the heck of it. The only way you're going to compare the two is to drive them. I guarantee you can pick up a still new 05-09 GT for less, even insurance should be close.
Just a thought, a GT is much quicker and I don't know anyone who has been unsatisfied with one.
I love Mustangs, all of them. Always have. V6 or V8, they are all cool. No we are not as fast as Camaro's...but who cares? I don't. I own a 10' GT prem and purchased it KNOWING I was paying the same price as a Camaro SS and getting .5 slower in the 1/4. Why? Because I love Mustang GT's and Fords. Not Camaro SS' and Chevy's. Plus my car still hauls ass! I love it!
Preferance, thats all it is.
Other side. Many of you like V6's. You enjoy the better fuel economy, the cheaper price and whatever else you like about the V6. I don't see it, it does'nt appeal to me because I like the GT. But I respect your opinion, and if your young, I am young enough to know a old GT or a newer V6 is all a young guy can afford, or if your old you don't care about the speed you I am sure just like the Ford Mustang and don't care about dragging it out at stop lights.
Again, preferance.
Would I buy a V6? Nope. I don't care if it had 3,000 HP. I like the sound of a V8. I like the tourqe of a V8, I like the suspension, LSD in the rear, the lower profile tires and 19" wheels that come with a GT. I like everything that comes with owning a V8 mustang and the only reason I don't own a Shelby is because I would just be simply spending too much money on a car for what I bring home and for my age. I'm going to wait 7-8 more years, just like when I was a teen some 7-8 years ago I did'nt have a brand new Mustang GT.
I'm glad you V6 guys are happy, you should be. You are the one who purchased the car. And a nice care they are! With that said, i'll still light you up anyday with my bone stock GT around corners or in a straight line..... short of you packing a suspension upgrade, blower, or spray or all three! For you to think other wise means your just feeding yourself propaganda and lies I've raced enough V6'ers to know. Plus, if you purchased a V6...why are you trying to race it anyway? maybe thats your preferance.
Have fun with your car and stop caring what haters think. If you have a few haters, you need a few more because you must be doing something right to have them in the first place!

i never bought mine to race or to abuse , i bought my V6 with every option available except for the glass roof ( didnt need more glass to keep clean) affordability was never an issue . i bought mine to drive on the weekends , take on road trips , and to keep my love of mustangs alive . i accually was looking at a rousch 427R when my silver V6 prem with pony package caught my eye . i went from drooling over the power of the rousch to a calm peaceful feeling when walked over to check it out ..... the rest is history and i'm happy .
i appreciate your respect for us V6 owners , especially us old coots LOL i hope you enjoy your mustang as much as i'm enjoying mine .

Mustangs ! ..... made for speed but driven for pleasure
I bought my 2010 V6 base model with the manual transmission about 1 month ago. I wasn't expecting to buy a car but my truck broke down and needed $6000 to replace the engine. I have always liked the fox body mustangs and would have bought one in maybe a year (time to save enough money) and of course it would have been a 5.0
I have to say that I really enjoy the V6 especially because it is stick shift. Get what you want!! Often times hate is due to jealousy. We all like the Mustang over the rest of the cars out there or we wouldn't be here, so why do fellow owners have to argue.
My opinion, its the same car but with upgraded interior. No dual exhaust (which is BS), no upgraded suspension, no improved CAI, etc. If I can't get the new 5.0, at least I'll have a choice of a 300+ horsepower v6.
Speaking from experience I would say get the V6. Its a great car, a lot of fun to drive, and definitely gets attention from the ladies. If you are young that covers allt he bases.
You can upgrade later. I chose to get 2 GT500's after my V6. The opportunities to get that V8 are endless...getting that inital and fulfilling bond with your first car is irreplaceable. I equally LOVE my V6 as much as I do my KR and GT500.
Now if were talking about smoking tires and seeing tail lights lets put it on the street Mustang Airman and BoardingBilly.

Oh and I wanted to say I feel let down that there is so much bashing going on towards the V6. I could say from first hand experience that it drives people away from enjoying their car regardless of the individual being a stranger or close friend. I joined the mustang community not knowing what a close family it is. The V6 bashing seemed to be minimal. It seems to have escalated recently and trust me I know of a few individuals who have not bought a mustang simply because of all the hate comments they got just for thinking of buying a V6.
At the end of othe day we all drive Mustangs, products of Ford, and we should direct all attacks towards GM and Dodge, not towards each other.

I would consider myself a car enthusiast and do not hold any bias towards one type of vehicle or brand. I grew up with Fords and I love them just as much as the next guy, but when someone is talking trash on a Corvette for example (GM product) i'll be the first one to stand up and tell you it will beat just about anything with the same price tag (including mustangs). In other words i'm not going to bash GM or Chrysler just because i'm on a Mustang forum. I'd rather choose a certain vehicle and break it down to what exactly its good for. Not to mention I read most of the popular car magazines and a lot of my opinion is based off of the information I've gathered through credible sources.
Caranddriver.com said the Mustang GT faired better then both the Camaro SS and Dodge Challenger RT. Though, Caranddriver.com also said that the V6 Mustang did not live up to the V6 Camaro or the Hyundai Genesis.
I would not consider this "bashing" since its a fact!
I am simply trying to help! If you do you're research I think you will find a better buy.

Buying a car is not only based on power. There are quite a lot of factors involved. Some people could care less about how fast the car is they enjoy the way the car looks or the interior.
As far as GM and the Corvette...I could think of a few Mustangs that would run with em down the road easily.

I understand, there is a lot more things that factor in when buying a new car. That is why I mentioned the articles. They happen to point out things such as engine, transmission, drivetrain, plus other things such as MPG. Yes, if you love Mustangs and wish to have one despite the horrible reviews thats fine. It doesn't make it any better of a car just because it has an iconic name. All i'm saying is that, it appears there are better buys out there and just because I own a Mustang i'm not going to tell someone else to buy one when I know there is something better for the money.
Anyways, I thought I would provide you with a good example of what I said earlier...
