i've been looking to get a upgrade from my little 1999 Mazda Protege 1.6L. and well i have enough to afford a 2010 Ford Mustang V6 ( sorry with eco and gas price v8 GT is no where near my pocket or price ). so back to the subject. what are the problems with them? thing people face? the pros and cons of them? i wouldnt be doing any engine mods untill the warrenty passes over. ( will only do Flowmaster n CAI ) and work on the exterior. ive been looking at it for a while and was just thinking of the problem. im choosing between Mustang , Charger and Accord ( the accord would be 4 cycl )

If your are seeking approval for being eco, you want a Prius. Don't let the price of gas be how you decide on a V6 or a V8 because they are not that much different.
Build wise, the GT is better all around. Better suspension, exhaust, transmission, drive-line, and wheels/tires. While the V6 looks the part, the GT plays the part.

Whoever said the v6 and v8 fuel economy is the same is lying. Before my turbo I was getting 24.5 mpg around town and 32 on the highway in my v6. The v8 gets about 18 around town. Granted I had a cold air and exhaust and ignition on mine it still averaged out to 24.5 regularly.
The cons do come when you want to mod it. There aren't as many options and you do have to beef up the rear end and such. As far as I have experienced the driveline is not a problem when upping power, just the driveshaft.
I am well pleased with my v6. Haven't had any problems and right now I am confident that on low boost I could smoke a stock gt or even mildly modded one.
I say go for the v6. If you want to save money I would say maybe get a slightly used one though.

I drove the V6 before I drove the V8, both were 2010's. I bought the V8, but that said, the six was a really sweet ride. I was surprised with the power and with the sound. It is a nice ride.
I have also driven the V6 challenger. Don't waste your money. Its a dog. Drives like a lincoln town car and has doesnt have the giddyup of the mustang. The back pillars are also big enough to hid a semi.
I cant complain, my V6 was a birthday present and I would rather take a V6 Premuim than a stock V8. I am only 17 and I don't need such a powerful/strong car just yet. My V6 is prefect for me. It has a good sound and good looks and does what I need it to do. Also my insurance would kill me if I had an V8 it would be around $300-400 per month! Personally I think that is rediculous.
I agree a GT is not a first car to own. I started on sixer. But IMO this late into 2009. I'd wait like 5 months for the most fuel efficient 3.5 liter v6. As I'm sure a lot of people are waiting for the 5.0 v8. However, the 4.0 was never and impressive engine at all. the 4.6 liter 3v v8 has been a proven contender time and time again.
I'd wait for the 3.5 liter v6 that is a worthy engine upgrade and really what the sixer needs to break out of it's mold. 4.6 liter or 5.0 liter, both good engines (as far as we know).
But I won't tell this kid to buy a GT. I was young and went through two v6's before I could finally afford the 8 banger. In all relatively, the 2010 v6 is a solid performer and won't leave you dissapointed coming from a Mazda Proto 1.6. But if you can wait, wait or just buy the cheaper 05-09 v6, nearly the same car with the exception of body style.
When Car and Driver compared the V6 Mustang to the V6 Camaro and the Honda Genesis it performed very poorly. It took the Mustang a second longer to run the quarter then both the other cars. Plus, Car and Driver reported the same mileage as the Camaro (which is much quicker), and the Honda Genesis actually got 1 mpg better.
Heres a nice quote " Venture onto your favorite back road, though, and the V-6 Mustang is as disappointing as Hootie and the Blowfish's sophomore album. It feels as though the suspension bushings are made from the stuff inside Stretch Armstrong, and a heavy foot on the brake pedal induces extreme dive, which might be useful in the winter if drivers hope to employ their Mustang’s front valance as a snow plow. Stops of 182 feet from 70 mph trail not only the Camaro and Genesis but also all four competitors in our recent mid-size hybrid-sedan comparo."
"The Camaro looks worlds better in our opinion, and it and the Genesis are more fun to drive."
I just thought I'd provide some more reasons NOT to get the V6 Mustang.
The Genesis is a nice little car, but it is not an easy car to drive, nor is it practical in any way. I drove it. It was a ton of fun, but the trunk is useless and it is very low to the ground.
Honda doesn't make a genesis. That would be Hyundai. That said, the 4.0 v6 stang has the same power as the old 5.0. (They both have 210 hp.) So the argument that it is not a contender with power is BS.

the 2010 mustang GT is rated at 24 MPG on the highway. the V6 is rated 26. But i totally agree with insurance. Cause when you compund the high cost to buy, higher insurance, and worse MPG. it adds up even though each cost is small alone, together they are pricey.
After some years of driving experience behind my Mustang and when I am ready to move onto a V8, Oh will I get my hands on one.
When I first went to the dealership with my parents awhile back, one of the salesman took me for a ride in a 2008 Buillet and a 2009 Roush Shelby Mustang. WOW were those an experience to go though!
