my service guy said the noise was just slack between the transmission and the rear wheels. Said it happens every once in a while when parked just right. Blueboy syndrome....if it happens again I'm taking it in......but they have it documented on the car!

that sounds like skip shift doesn't it? Maybe the person driving wasn't aware of it at the time

Build date of 12/16/10.

The transmission in mine wasn't even close to the one that was on the lot when I went to buy one. I decided to get the Amsoil Synchromesh and it's been awesome so far. It shifts much better and the smile is back on my face.

Oh, and while I was under there, that silly skip-shift solenoid got disconnected for good reason.

stupid trolls are stupid.

Surely the BOSS doesn't have skip shift? Even if it does the message would pop up and I'd hope that auto journalists observant enough to notice it.

Skip shift is only eliminated if using the RED key. Does the article mention if the driver was using that key?

BOSS does indeed have skip shift. As it says, track key turns it off (or you could do it like the GT and unplug/program it off).

A co-worker of mine ordered his and was pretty surprised when he was told that the BOSS also had this feature.

Scottward, I wouldn't expect anyone to read all the posts here but most of us start with a nibble which then becomes a full on GRIND on the 1-2 and then, eventually 2-3... and at all temps. I've already had a Ford Field Service Engineer acknowledge to me and my service manager that Ford was aware people were having this problem and that it is not normal.

Also everyone, according to the owners manual, the "SHIFT 1-4 FOR ECONOMY" appears on the dash when the skip-shift solenoid is engaged. It's hard to miss that warning if you're blocked out of 2nd. I rarely see that message and can't shift into 2nd all the time so it sounds like the same issue that we're all experiencing.

The main issue is that it is often progressively getting worse which implies that things are grinding away.

I think we've all been patient up until recently. I reported this problem to Ford back in September 2010... and back then I was told they were aware of it. If it's just a fluid issue, 6 months is a LONG time, no? And there were people posting on threads way before I ever did.

Sometimes the parking brakes can stick and 'pop' when first moving the car. Maybe?
