MT-82 missing from BOSS 302S? Interesting...

Where the Magic Happens: How a Ford Mustang Boss 302 Becomes a 302S Race Car - Car and Driver Blog

I find it very telling that while the standard Boss (and GT) come with the MT-82, the BOSS 302S - which has the same BOSS engine - is being made with the GT500 transmission. Ford should be expecting buyers to bump up horsepower on all their Mustang models, but why change the transmission for the 302S and not for the BOSS 302?

Cost savings.

I wouldn't read much into it regarding the MT82. The TR6060 is used in a number of cars including the new Camaro, the Challenger, the GT500, etc. I don't necessarily think that's a commentary on the MT82, however.

You don't care when my car was built or what options it has.

Why yes, yes I did. I just posted the article as proof of the tranny change (which someone might eventually ask for). My point was that it is still essentially a BOSS, with the same engine. The Cobra Jet is for drag racing - different purpose. Why would they change out the tranny, and not even modify the engine? Did you catch that? It is not major, like the last poster said. But, I find it significant - and so might many 2011-12 GT/BOSS owners who are very worried about their MT-82's.

The 302S is a dedicated race car, so it's going to need beefier parts than a street car.

Even a modded street car.

Why would boss owners be worried aboht the mt82? A few stock mt82s a running 10 seconds 1/4 stock and a bunch of them are road racing. A few of them had issues but that's dosnt mean that they are crap. Alot of people read to much into the forums and are very anal about things. Crying about a slight gear whine for example.

I have a thread already posted on this in the general 2011+ discussion. What all the other guys are saying about the S and R being dedicated race cars is true. The T6060 has it's issues with shifting in the GT500, believe me.

Ill post this one more time, and I have been backed by a good source, the T6060 is used because it is better designed for the race environment (in the most simplest way, YES, the T6060 is stronger than the MT82). The MT82 is used on the street cars because it is a nicer geared/shifting transmission. That is the trade off Ford made between using the MT82 instead of the T6060. You can believe differently about the nice shifting of the MT82, but it has been beat to death by people and there is no need to continue that discussion here.

notice the lower control arm rellocation brackets as well (with two different positions).
notice the use of a different rear dif cover..

personally, i wish ford offered those options from the factory (including the tremec trans, the 2 peice front rotors, different dif cover, and im sure a 1 peice drive shaft)
