Stock 2011 5.0 Throttle Body, Should I Upgrade ?

Considering putting a larger after-market throttle body on my 2011 5.0 with the stock intake. Reading posts from a few months back others were wondering if adding the larger 85 or 90.0 mm aftermarkets like BBK or Ford Racing 90 mm would really improve performance. That was based on the fact that the intake itself was approx. 82.7 from what I read. Even the Boss Intake seemed to only be 82.9. So would it even make a difference?
Question is, has anyone done the mod and if so have you seen a noticeable increase in performance? If so please describe the improvement and what aftermarket TB you used.

Thanks in advance

I havent done it but from what I've read an aftermarket TB on non FI has next to no gains. I would look to spend the money elsewhere.

If you get one, go with Accufab, they make the best...it helped my Cobra, but your car is "drive by wire" so no telling the outcome

A throttle body would not be anywhere near the top of my mod list on a stock 5.0. If I were going to replace it, it would be the Accufab 85mm.

Here is Matt DaSilva's independent testing of the Accufab on his stock longblock 5.0 with Boss intake, JLT CAI, Kooks headers, and custom DaSilva tune;

...btw, he did a 10.84 @ 124mph before the throttle body...

Zero changes made to the tune for the throttle body.

Grimace, I was going to point him to that thread on s197 but you beat me to it. I would buy one if I could justify spending more money on mods right now but I can't due to work related stuff.

So just by switching out the throttle body he is making 20 more rwhp at 4750 rpm and making 23 rwtq at 5k rpm? Am I understanding that correctly? If so i'll be buying one tomorrow cause I have the same mods besides the throttle body.

Ford Racing says if you install the larger TB you MUST have a custom tune.

Sometimes, I see cops with their backs turned writing tickets. When I drive by I can see them stick their heads up,and sniff the air, catching a whiff of exhaust and burning rubber, the crimson smell of speed, telling them a Race Red Mustang is somewhere nearby!

numbers wont tell the full story. A larger throttle body should greatly increase throttle response. seat of the pants will feel like more.

1/4"wheel spacers, GT500 exhaust, AEM intake, BAMA tune, Amsoil

1995 5.0 cobra clone. BBK full exhaust, BBK intake, 70mm throttle body. (sold)

Thanks everyone.. overall it looks like not the best bang for the buck..I am already running a 93 Brenspeed tune & Steeda CAI and do have plenty of throttle response so I don't think theres much to be gained for my car..

Thanks again!

I put one on the Boss, I didn't notice anything but that doesn't mean a lot as well... I have never had my butt dyno verified for accuracy...
Now, with a change in CAI, I added the Steeda Boss CAI, it is 101mm MAF housing compared to almost 98 percent of other CAI that require a tune, 95mm… Steeda did tune for the 85mm TB as well…
Did it add, who knows as before… It does sound badass when I ramp on it and it looks really cool when I open the hood… For those of you that never open your hood even to check the oil… this is one mod you should pass on…

I don't speak often but when I do, I don't have clue what I am talking about. I just repeat things that I once heard and do not repeat them correctly... My doctor told me it was an ID 10 T problem and it was incurable.
So when I reply to a post or add to a thread I just find the words elsewhere and copy and paste.
