Which diff to get?

I'm looking at Torsen diffs as a possible next upgrade in a few weeks but I am a little undecided. I would prefer to have the OEM one that's standard on the Boss 302 LS but it is about $150-$200 more expensive than the T2-R and has a lower TBR. However, I read on a forum while searching that the T2-R isn't very durable. Does anyone here run the T2-R? How is it holding up?

I've also been looking at the Eaton TrueTrac but I don't know anyone who is running them in a Mustang. How do they compare to the Torsen in performance and reliability? Does anyone run them on here?

The car is a '12 Boss 302 with the standard limited slip diff. Thanks in advance!

Torsen and True trac are both worn gear diffs but have different TBR. They both will wear out specially when racing. I've had T2 in 04 Mach1 lets you put power on sooner in turn but it can at time unload 1 wheel acting like open diff. T2R would have been better in stopping this. Buy T2R but know this after season of hard racing it may need to be replaced if this what you're doing.

I have T2 31 spline that I had in Ranger didn't work like I wanted in deep snow unless you ride the brakes. Trying to find Factroy Torsen in Level II ranger next to impossible it's preloaded unit cannot be bought through Torsen Ford only

That's why im trying to stay away from the t-2. I've never lifted a wheel clean off the track, but it's better to be safe.

oh I thought the truetrac was a helical gear diff? Do you know what the differences between the truetrac and torsen are? When I was looking up the truetrac, I found a TBR of 2-3.5 or close to that. Is that a range of adjustability or is it variable while in operation? If it is variable, under what conditions does vary and does it gradually change or move from 1 ratio to another? Can it change mid corner? If you know a good article to read, please post! I found a lot of info about torsens but not so much about the truetrac.

You're right, the oem torsen is hard to find and, not to mention, the most expensive. I found it on latemodelrestoration and another vendor but can't remember which one. The only reason im considering this one is because i think it would be the most durable. Both of the t-2r and the true-trac have higher tbr and are cheaper.

Both are worm gear style that work against each other and the case. I know it allows you to get on power sooner in a turn because it tranfers power to wheel that has traction. I read F1 and indycar use this style of diff

don't they also allow better steering and turn in when entering a corner? unlocks the inner wheel allowing for the car to rotate easier.

do these exotic diffs not last as long? why did the corvette go with motor activated computer controlled vs. the torsen type? maybe f1 isn't allowed to have e-diff.

Talking about corner exit not entering the corner. This is where Torsen helps on exit. Yes they do wear out but this was also covered too.

I get the exiting a corner part, I was asking if it helped or hurt vs. a limited slip entering a corner. i.e. which type of diff in our mustangs become more of an 'open diff' upon coasting into a corner? seems the more torque balancing of a torsen tbd would actually also reduce the open diff effect. vs. the limited slip that only gets real tight under drive torque. also since the tbd type is way heavy roating mass there is a penalty for acceleration and braking. obviously it works great or it wouldn't be used in the boss. I just want to know how much better it is than the standard diff, and how much heavier the rotating part is.
