Default Top speed in the 2011 Mustang GT?

So I've been watching a lot of Top Gear lately (great show, except that it makes me lust for $250,000+ cars). One of the stats they always quote in addition to horsepower and 0-60 times is a car's top speed.

This got me thinking - what is the 2011 Mustang 5.0's top speed? It's not flaunted anywhere the way horsepower, 0-60 and quarter mile times are. After a bit of searching, it looks like the engine is limited to 155 mph...but if you were to take the governor off (not that I'm planning on doing that), just how fast could a GT go?

I believe its 160mph.

Anyone think the different gear options will effect ungoverned top speed? I wonder if 180+ is possible with some aero tweaks...

With programming I'm positive that it'll do north of 170, if just slightly. My G8 GT was originally limited to 139, after an OTR intake and tune I see 160 - and the Mustang has lots more 'go'

I've developed an Excel simulation of acceleration performance (time-history) of the 2011 Mustang. Model is tuned to match the Motor Trend test data, which gives 0-speeds up to 100 and 1/4 mile. My model allows me to play with gear ratios, shift rpm's, weights, tire-ground friction, etc. Model includes aero drag with a Cd of 0.36.

With that model, top speed if unlimited electronically, would range from 155 to 161 mph. Highest speed is with auto trans, in 5th gear. With stick, 3.73 gears show max speed of 155 in 6th gear. Stick with 3.31 gears tops out at 156 in 5th gear.

Take it all with a grain of salt, since I've seen no published data on Cd for the 2011 Mustang.

I hit 150+ (1 or 2 mph) at an undiscosed location. I am bone stock right now and it was still creepin when I shut her down, and steadily at that.

Stick shift or auto? What gear were you in? What differential gears?

Stick shift, I was in 5th gear until 145 and didn't redline but didn't want to push it so I shifted to 6th and it was still accelerating. I LOVE THIS CAR!! So glad they stiffened up the suspension so now it doesn't feel like you're gonna bounce off the road when you go this fast! btw found this on the Lethalperformance website:

From C&L's testing, they have found that the factory air intake assembly for the 2011 GT (with the new "5.0" 4-valve engine) flows 748.7 CFM, which is a REDUCTION in airflow of approximately 50 CFM versus the factory 2010 GT air intake assembly, which flowed right at 800 CFM.

CAIs seem to be a necessity

post from slaminsam,, i have been wondering what was top end for my 2010 mustang was as i shut it down at 145 mph due to a stop sign comeing up.i had about 2000miles on it and all stock except full borla exgust and headers,and better cool air intake,,a g t prem cp with autotrans & was still pulling hard i have had all years from 1998 up each year and just got a 2011 5.0 with auto trans but found i cant put on fords new factory blower with a auto trans cause lose my warenty, so had 1100 miles on it and traded it in with,4000$$ AN GOT A NEW 2011 WITH 6 SPD MANUEL TRANS as soon as i get about 1000 miles on it i will have my dealer install the new 525 hp blower with exgust &, ford raceing headers and cool air intake, they come with a tuner to eliminatethe govnor, the 2011 s sure have a lot of power,,, in spring when i take it out an get about 1000 miles on it then i,ll see what it,l run at a leagal place to run it## i do not run them hard it is just to have one that has the power and looks real,ly looks good sitting in my garage i am lucky to have a real good dealer that treats me very good every year EBY FORD in goshen indiana ,,so who,s got a top spd # for a stock 2011 5.0 manuel trans stang,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, i,ve had severel vet,s and just like mustang,s better and a lot less money for car and preformance parts how ever i will ask some one to run it for top end cause i am now 75 and maybe not as brave or dumb as i used to be one or the other
