Will the 2011 Mustang GT be a collectible one day?

With the 2011 GT being the return of the 5.0 and the Mustangs return to prominence among the muscle cars, will the 5.0 be a classic / collectible one day since this is the first year? Just something I've been pondering lately and I thought I'd get your viewpoints on it.

Nope, i highly doubt it. Once then newer upgraded engine comes out it will be phased out and not collectible. The 2005 isn't collectible and its 6 years out of production now and was quite the quick and sought after car in its time.

If it's mint... maybe 200 years from now.

Seriously... I doubt a regular massed produced production car will be collectible in an Avg. lifetime.

too many were made to be considered collectible. Needs to be less than 2000 units to even be discussed in that category. If you want an investment, buy the Boss 302 Laguna Seca and bag it up and drive it 500 miles per yr. In 50 yrs you will have a classic with 25,000 original miles. Key here is never modify it, never get into accident, never see any salt, rain etc. Keep all documentation and do work at Ford dealer if at all possible.

the Mustang Boss 302 model will be built for two years (2012 & 2013) with 4,000 models produced each year. Of the 4,000 Mustang Boss 302 models 3,500 will be street cars and 500 will be ”R” race cars ( Laguna Seca edition).

So 1,000 total Boss 302 will be made. thats not a bad start to collect.

My guess is if its in good shape 40 years from now, it'll be like a 71 Mach 1 is now.

Of course most will never make it, as they'll be driven to death.

Agree. Unless you have the proper facility to collect a Laguna seca and never drive it, with the intent of selling it for profit, I would just get the car you want and mod and drive the snot out of it.

Life is too short to storage a car for 50 yrs and never drive it, like some of these barrett jackson finds. all original, all matching body, 20k mile 60s boss 302. did the owner really enjoy the car at all? unless he has two, one to drive and one to bag away.

I simple question one might ask; what are you going to do with that "collectable" in 20 years when the ECU blows and you can't get a new one? People will buy modern special edition cars and stick them in garages calling them collectable. That says more about the person than it does about the car. Cars today are not built with the passion from a generation ago. Today there are crash safety standards and emisions regulations that are ruining the prestige of what may have become a classic car of the future.
In addition to my '11 5.0 I am also restoring a 1967 Fastback. Everytime I step in my garage for something the car catches my eye and takes my breath away. There hasn't been a car built since then that can do the same, and I work at a Mercedes Benz/Aston Martin dealership(with a preowned exotic section).

Nah, but it might be desirable. Kind of like the old fox 5.0's...I'm sure nobody thought they'd be worth crap in 20 years, but they were wrong. Clean foxes fetch good money, and it's possible these cars will too. Hard to say though, by then we all might be driving electric because gas is to expensive to be practical.

The 2011 probably not. The 2012, depending on what happens with the next cars, could go down as a highly valued edition, kind of what happened with the Porsche 911, where the "993" model, which was the last one to be air-cooled etc., is highly sought after.
