"302" Hood Spears Added to GT/CS

Today was a warm enough day with a heater in the garage to install my "302" Hood Spears...

Before...

After...

They went on easier than I was worried about. I got them from Rider Graphix. RiderGraphix.com 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Stripes 2009 Dodge Challenger Graphics Dodge Charger Graphics Ford Mustang Graphics Chevy Silverado Graphics Retro Custom Graphics Stripes Decals Boss Hockey Stick HEMI

I have to say I'm pleased with how they came out. :yelpleased:

Thanks for the pics. I had pondered doing the same, but was curious as to the "font" they'd use for the 302. Looks good.

I think the '302' spears would only look good on a GT/CS since they don't have a 5.0 badge on the fender.

Looks good! Is the finish similar (matte) to the side decals? If so, I may have to pick some of these up

Agreed... metric and imperial would conflict if seen together.

Yup... the matte finish matches the GT/CS stripe pretty good.

Way easier than I stressed about. I found some good info on this thread:
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...od-spears.html

The directions that came with the stripe say use Naphtha or rubbing alcohol to clean and remove wax first. Naphtha wasn't readily available at the local auto stores so I used something called Prep-All. It states it's specifically for removing wax and grease on cars. I had to warm up the garage with a couple heaters since it requires temp above 60 for application and then it says to keep above 45F for 48 hours. Hhhmmm... that seems like a long time to cure. Wetting solution is Dawn dish soap of 1tbsp per gallon. Overall, following the instructions it was a breeze. They even sent along a squeegee to use.

Can the decals be clay-barred safely ?

Clay bar would have probably worked fine for removing the wax too. I don't think you'd want to use clay on the decals, but that questions probably better asked of Rider Graphix. They suggest not waxing the matte finish decals though.
