Still taking Factory Orders on 2012s?

I was talking to a dealership a week or so ago, and they were trying to locate me a Value Leader up here in Canada, and I said it was no big deal if they couldnt find me one, I would just put an order in. I was told Ford is no longer taking Factory orders of 2012s.

I was also told they are not taking orders of 2013s, and they have no idea when they will start or what the prices will be...

Is this correct info? Whats made is made, and all the 2012s are out on lots?

when I tried to order a 2012 Mustang at the beginning of January the dealer said no problem, I called Ford and they said all orders for 2012's were cut off after 12/5/11.. all orders after that would be automatically converted to 2013 orders.

I was ready to order but they said it would not be fulfilled as a 2012 and all 2012's built were supposed to be on the ground delivered tuesday a week ago. I was also hoping one would drop with the options I wanted..

sorry..

So if you ordered today, it would be a 2013, when would that be built, now or like months from now?

Ford told me the 2013's would start hitting the ground late February mid March, if not sooner. I think they are building them now from what I'm told.

The last order date was the 12th of Jan. My Buddy ordered a 2012 on Jan 5th, He has a VIN and it's slated to be built around the end of Feb.

I was also told that 2012 orders were cut off in early December. I don't recall the exact date.

absolutely correct, as I said before... Ford Motor Co customer service/marketing department told me directly you could order a 2012 Mustang after the 5th of December but it would be built a 2013 not a 2012 and your dealer was either knowingly withholding this information, or just clueless could be up for debate.

"the dealers throw all kinds of numbers out on dates but they are either wrong or just trying to sell a car"...
according to Ford Headquarters.

I still have a dealer that swears he can order a 2012 as of last Thursday even though I told him what Ford said..

Okay this makes me feel better on the matter. When i said i wanted to order one,
they said basically "Ford isn't taking factory orders anymore, they are only doing 2013s, and we dont know when you will have it built...BUT as it turns out, before the factory stopped taking orders we placed an order for that exact model, and same options as you just asked me to order!"

THAT really set off some alarms with me, but it seems true and i guess they just knew what to put on the lot to sell lol

I was told 27th Feb is the day 2013MY starts production.
I ordered a 2013 in early Dec and got my VIN a couple of days ago with a scheduled build date of Feb 27th.
So I guess the last 2012's will be built a couple of days before Feb 27th. I would think twice about ordering a 2012 now since I'm sure resale will take a hit unless the incentives factor that in for you.

Yeah, I didnt really think of re-sale taking a hit, but I plan on driving this car for at least 5 years, hopefully longer.

Also, i don't entirely trust Fords Manu-matic transmission. Nothing against Ford, its just all companies are heading towards these. I drove the VW manual shift and it was pretty great, shifted up for you at red-line as to not damage anything. I also drove the Chevy one, and it did NOT shift up for you. Which is bad for people who buy an auto and decide to pretend to drive a manual and forget its in manual and hit redline and not remember they have to shift. I'll stick to Auto or Manual lol

Also, i have heard some bad news regarding the Focus and its select-shift or power-shift or whatever it has and bad gear hunting.:S

My dealership sent an order to Ford for my 2013 GT on 01/20.

The latest news I got from them was Friday 01/27: Ford started scheduling 2013 Mustangs on 01/26. They are starting with dealer stock orders first to run quality checks on the initial batch of Mustangs before they start building special orders for customers. It may be a few weeks before they schedule my GT.

The last date to place 2012MY orders was Jan-12-2012. Canada already has the price list for 2013MY, so you can order now, Recreate.Me.
