Axle-Back exhaust help for 2013 GT: Ford Racing Touring Axle-Back vs. GT500 Axle-Back

I was wondering if anyone could give me a comparison or an opinion on the FR Touring axle-back and the GT500 axle-back exhaust for the 2013 Mustang GT. I am looking for deep rumble over rasp. Louder is better at WOT, but excessively noisy is not needed (which is why I narrowed it down to these two). Price is not really an object, but it is worth nothing that the Ford Racing axle-back is double the price of the GT500 axle-back.

What do you guys think?

I would say it depends on your budget. If you are not worried about the money then go with the FRT Axle-back. The GT500's sound great as well. Both are good choices & I'm sure you would enjoy either.

I've been listening to a lot of axle-back sound clips lately (while waiting for my car to be delivered), and I'm thinking about getting a set of Flowmaster Hush Power axle-backs myself.

Let us know what you decide!

I just installed the GT500s on my '12 GT this weekend and I love the sound. It has the deep rumble I was looking for and the throttle is now a volume knob. When I first heard them, I was pretty much set on that sound, but spent a few months listening to clips online to make sure. YouTube videos hardly do any exhaust note justice, so if you can, try to find someone in your area with each and give them a listen in person. Good luck!

I think the Ford Racing Sport axle back are just Borla S Types, badged as Ford products, of course.

The FR's I am considering are the touring axle-backs, not the sport. And my buddy has the Borla S Types and they do not sound like the FR tourings.

So if the FRPP Sports MGTLA is the Borla S-type, than is the FRPP Sport MSVTLA the Borla ATAKs?

I know they're pretty much the same exhaust but I've been told the baffles are different which leads me to believe that the FRPP touring is the Borla touring model. They're all top quality and all three use the same T304 stainless as the Borlas. Also all have the same external design just like the Borlas where the difference comes from the inside chambers and baffles.

To the OP, id say go with the FRPP touring over the GT500(MGTCA1) style ABs but id consider the MGTLAs over the Touring being they're around they same price and might give you that throaty WOT sound your looking for.

Holy crap am I confused

I have watched the Borla video a bunch of times and I like the initial startup and idle of the touring the best. I really don't care for the startup/idle of either the S-Type at all. Sounds too European to me. The ATAK is a little better, but the deep rumble of the touring sounds best to me.

At WOT, the S-Type and the ATAK sound really good from inside the car. The touring just isn't loud enough. The pitch is there - it just needs to be amplified more. And at WOT from outside the car, the S-Type sounds best. So I am trying to decide what is more important to me: sound at idle/low revs vs. sound at WOT.

Here is the sound of my last Mustang. It was a 2000 Mustang GT with a Vortech supercharger. First I just had a Magnaflow catted X-pipe and Magnaflow Magnapack catback system (this was pre-blower). Best sounding exhaust note ever (to me at least). When I put the supercharger on, I went with BBK l/t headers and their shorty x-pipe. Changed the sound a little, but it still sounded great. In a perfect world, this is what I want my new 5.0 to sound like:

It had that deep rumble and it kept it at WOT. What will get me the closest to this? Help!

I vote for the GT500's.
Had these put on almost 2 weeks ago and absolutely love them.

I am starting to think that this may be my best option. I wish I could hear it in person though. It's so hard to judge based on video clips.

Had the GT500's for a couple months and loved the sound of them, but many times when I would here something a bit loader I wanted more sound....but not obnoxiously loud. I got the FR sport and love them! Louder and deeper than the GT500's, but not too loud.

If GT500's are quieter than Borla S-Types I would go with FRPP. I love the sound of S-Types when they are wound up but they are pretty tame overall.
