Here in Salt Lake, the air is terrible. The last time I was in Detroit it was so bad by eyes and lungs were burning, and 15 years ago it was even worse. The regulations work, and even with the regulations,we have 412hp mustang GTs getting 26mpg,and 650+HP GT500s that done even qualify for the gas guzzler tax. To spite these new regs, and in some cases because of it,the cars we have today are amazing. Automakers are broadly moving to technologies like direct injection. The would not be doing so,at least not for many more years, without that push. DI is primarily a fuel economy and emissions technology. But it also nets an increase in power, and automakers can choose to give us the same power at even better fuel economy, the same power at somewhat improved economy,a lot of power, with the same fuel consumption,or anywhere in between. To spite the doom and gloom predictions of how the new regs will destroy our beloved cars, the just keep getting better.

I agree, you SHOULD be free to burn all the gas you want AND take the cats off your car,AND belch out giant plumes of black soot. I don't care. I don't care that is,until it starts affecting my health,or for that matter driving up my health insurance costs. Then its no longer just your choice and your freedom in question.
I agree, somewhat. My freedom ends when it starts affecting yours. But you missed my point, the market decides whats made so no I/we don't need the govt to "protect" us. Gas prices go up enough to where I can't afford my GT, I'll buy a more efficient car. I don't need BS laws imposed on me to do that. When/if that happens, I won't be buying any version of a non V8 mustang.

So in my final post let me say,if FORD no longer has a V8 in the Mustang I will pronounce the Mustang DEAD.I will enjoy my 2011 GT,but will have ZERO interest(reading magazine articles, comments, going to my Ford dealer to see them, checking them out at car shows in other words (0) interest),a 1973 Honda would spark more interest in me than a Mustang without a V8 and I don"t care about Eco Boost anything no matter the power,I can listen to my weed wacker same thing, sound included.

Which look are you referring to? I don't think a "real" design concept has even been released.

Oh good call. I was referring to the Aston Martin-esque look that seems to be the trend the renditions are taking.

Yea we'll see how much it actually looks like that. I think the concepts that have been released are the extreme in terms of moving towards a euro look, and the real thing will be somewhere between the current mustang and that.

Let's trade. I'm willing to submit to the federal government in regards to "eco-friendly" policy, if you'll let me get out of paying for everyone else's kids schooling. I'm tired of my property taxes being pillaged for schools that never benefit me, as I'm never having kids.

Not fair?

I hope they give the 4 banger a shot for a couple of years, and completely rice it out. That will make my 2013 GT worth a whole lot more money!!:kooky:

Imagine how affordable the early fastbacks would be if they kept producing them for ever. Sometimes it good to have a bad run for a couple of years.

2013 Mustang GT Base, with Track Pack, black, 3.73, 6MT, Boss 302 intake, SCT Bama tune, GT500 strut mounts, FRPP K-springs, FRPP adjustable shocks, BMR adjustable pan hard, Eibach camber bolts, BBK cat delete, Flowmaster 3-inch catback, Airaid CAI, Boss 302S wheels 255/40-19 front, 305/35-19 rear. 420 rwhp, 370 lb/ft trq.

What's wrong with a "4 banger?" As long as it makes power, I don't see the problem. If they do make a 4, with, say, 280hp, in a slightly lighter Stang, that'd be great. The Focus ST makes 252 and I'd expect that motor to be dropped in a Stang. Then, with a few very simple mods, like a downpipe and a tune, I bet it'll easily soar into the 300whp realm.

I'm a fan of a 4 and 6 in a Stang, as long as it doesn't replace the 8. I'm curious how people would react to a V10 Stang. Would it be shunned as well? Too many cylinders?

I have lived in Japan and know what a 4-6 cylinder is capable of under boost. I have also built countless rotaries, but a V8 powered pony car is an American icon.

I would love to see Ford go nuts with the Focus or Fusion with a two-door, AWD or RWD, turbo 2.0 liter I-4, 6 speed manual tranny, etc. I would buy one in a minute. It's just not a Mustang.

How many people are jumping at the chance of getting their hands on a 1974 Mustang? There are a few, but not many.

I love the sound of turbos.. I've never heard a weed whacker that sounds like a plane taking off.

Is the SVO scoffed by the Mustang community? I always thought it had some regard in the community. I love them.

I agree and if you ever drove a Mustang SVO, back in the 80s, that was a biatchin car back in it's day...better than the GT
