MOROSO catch cans, a heads up.

Just bought and installed a Moroso 5.0 specific catch can from this company, really nice quality piece, but the hoses they supply you with are just complete crap at best!

It comes with a really nice mounting bracket that installs on the tower bolt where the chassis stiffening cross member sits.

The problem is the cheap crappy hoses they include with the kit...after the install, I fired her up and right away I noticed both hoses collapsed shut with vacuum, and I'm naturally aspirated !

Any of you guys out there with this catch can, pop your hood up, take a close look at the catch can hoses, then fire yours up and check the hoses again...if you used the ones Moroso supplies, tear them out and get yourself a piece of quality thick walled hydraulic 1/2" hose and install that.

The stock hoses will create a situation that will essentially block the flow of blow by and rather than venting through the catch can, will keep those oil saturated fumes from circulating, not a good thing!

I bought another catch can from these guys in 2004 for my SRT4 and although the piece was excellent, I had the same issue with their hoses, except that was even worse because that ride was turbo charged.

I don't thing that those catch cans are ment to be connected back to the manifold. Just vent it to atmosphere.

Nope, rear fitting on catch can hooks up to valve cover...front fitting hooks up to intake, so it still remains a closed loop system.
The piece itself looks awesome, well made and looks great...the real piece of crap is the hoses supplied, just can't handle any vacuum.

jdislandlock, I know, I built one before and you're right they work just as good for a fraction of the cost... they just don't look good at all in my opinion... it's just an inline water trap between a compressor and end nozzle...but I agree with you, there is a cheaper way to build a catch can.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that Moroso knows the hose supplied is crap... it will collapse as soon as vacuum hits it, so for those that don't know any better, it could develop into a problem, and completely screwing up the engine proper venting circulation.

I checked mine and isn't as bad as yours. My hose from the valve cover to the separator at one point at sweeping bend is collapsed just slightly, the hose from the separator to the intake is not collapsed at all.

yeah, but don't forget vacuum increases when you're in engine brake coasting toward a stop...play safe and get a piece of stronger thick walled hose and replace both, problem solved!

Exactly vivix, if you're venting it won't be pulling anything out, especially the fumes/oil out of the crank case.

Any idea on a good site where I could order some 1/2" thick walled PCV hose?

Sorry, I'm in Canada and have no idea what's in your area...
you want to look for around 3ft of heavy hydraulic 1/2" hose, test it's walls by trying to squeeze it together as hard as you can.
During summer months hoses will further soften up with the added heat, so ask for a hose that resists collapse.
I bought 3' of hydraulic 1/2" hose from National Hydraulic, pliable enough but will not collapse under vacuum, cost like $10.

I have seen a few posts on this topic. Some say the hose is good and others say it is crap. I am thinking different suppliers are putting different hoses with the catch can. What company did you purchase from?

Just pop your hood open and FIRST check how the hose looks closely... then fire her up and check it out again, more then likely it will be collapsed, hoses shipped with this kit are cheap weak pieces of garbage.
I intend to send Moroso an email to this effect... 3' of a strong quality hose does not cost more than $10.00 and it should be included with a catch can kit made by Moroso costing almost $200.00.
Just a heads up installing a stronger 1/2" hydraulic hose on the barbs...I just stuck the ends in hot water for a minute and forced it on, if you have a lil dab of grease, put a bit on the barb to help it slide on... no worries it wont blow off under use.

I've given it some thought and since the collapse on mine is so slight, plus the fact that my Moroso catch can is doing it's job (get about a teaspoon full each time I drain it) I think I'll just let it be.
