2011 Mustang V6 Governor Limited?

Just read the new Car & Driver article on the 2011 Mustangs, and they indicated that the V6 is Governor limited to just 113 mph! I understand the need to limit speed on very high performance cars, but this is usually in the 140-150 mph range. Heck, I've driven 120 mph in almost every car I've owned (this site is anonymous, right?). While not advocating illegal activity by any means, is there a way to umm....DISABLE the governor?

It can be disabled with a tuner.

Can you elaborate? (Is that something easy to do myself, etc.?) Thanks!

When you buy a SCT tuner from AM or Brenspeed with customs tunes preloaded the speed limiter is usually turned off in the tunes. The tunes are very easy to load into the cars PCM.

I too was a bit shocked and confused when I read about the low speed limit on the 2011 V6 model.

I would find out if the 2011 V6 drive shaft is the old steel design, or aluminum. I believe that was one reason for placing speed limits below 120 on previous V6 models.

Given the factory speed rated tires and carry over of the GT suspension, I dont know what other reason there would be for limiting top speed to 113. By capping the top speed to 113 all that the 2011 V6 model becomes is quicker but not faster than previous V6 models.

Guys you dont need to worry bout that its only for the 17 inch wheels that comes with t rated speed tires ...18 inch or sport pack are 156mph

Cool governer

Ok so if u get the sport package u have governer at 156mph? If so then why is it exactly that they put a governer on the car? Is it because the car won't take higher speeds so good so they limit it at 113 because that's what they grantee the cars safety at? I want to remove the limited crappy but not at cost of safety or worst .

no if you get the performance package, youre still limited to 113. the tires are rated to 156. removing the limiter is safe, the unsafe part is driving it past the speed rating of the tires, and if add doing that on a public road, then your a moron and deserve not to have your car if/and/or when it gets impounded.

i had a cougar that had 170hp and a top speed of like 135+ (no limiter). they should eliminate the governor at least on the PP cars.

The Performance Package 255/40ZR19 tires are actually "Y" speed rated to 186 MPH not 156.

Base tires are "H" speed rated for 130 MPH.

Probably should be glad that Ford chose to leave the speed govenor so low, helps keep those insurance rates lower than the GT.

Talking

I would guess the top speed is low 160's with the pirellis and no limiter. The 2010 mustang gt, which has similar power, topped out at 162 without the governor (with maybe a few mph more to go). There is a video somewhere on youtube. It was stock.
