BAMA Tune Fuel Mileage

Hey guys,

Tell me what tune you have on your ride and what kind of mileage you can still get with gentle acceleration?

I hear it really wakes up the automatic

I'm running 93R all the time, just because I like the get-up-and-go. Around town, being a little aggressive off the lights, I'm averaging 20.5 mph. The infor center shows 20.7-21 mph. So the computer is within decimal points of my actual fuel calculations.

Recent highway trip of 425 miles, using cruise @ 70-75mph, I averaged 27.8. Again though I was pretty aggressive accelerating and sometimes got it up to 80-90 mph or so passing all the ricers.

I'm calling BS on the 35mpg highway on a 3.8L.

The best I ever saw on my '01 was 31mpg. I was running with a MPG computer was well.

To all those who think a tune will affect gas mileage, they don't. Your right foot does.

If you keep a bouquet of helium balloons tied around your right foot you may see 2-3 MPG improvement

With 3.31 gears I was getting about 24-25mpg mixed and just about 30mpg highway. With 3.73 gears I get 22-23mpg in mixed driving and 28 mpg highway. I can do even better if I drive 60mph, but typically drive 70-75mph on the highway. These numbers are all with the 93race tune.

Using real calculations, not the dash estimator, for the 93R: 145 miles to West Lebanon, day of several passes racing, running around to dinner at Mario's, then back as far as Charlton rest area (96 miles) to fuel - less than 10 gallons to fill, or, 28+ MPG.

This winter, in commuting 2x16 miles a day with warmups, I stayed near 25 aggregate with the 87P. Note the only option on this 100A base is the 3.31s.

I bought a Bama SCT Tuner in January of this year.

I ran the 91S tune for 5 weeks and noticed a 1/2 MPG drop vs. stock. Definitely noticed the improved mid-range responce though.

Switched over to the 91P tune 3 weeks ago and so far it is about a 1 MPG improvement over stock. Mid-range throttle responce is more like stock tune and have not explored upper range performance due to still having my "skinny winter tires" on.

I've got over 40k miles on my car since new (all stock MT w/ 2.73 gears; "SCT Bama Tuner" & "K&N drop-in" only mods).

My drive cycle is the same every week (400+ miles / 80% highway) and have exclusivley used 91 Octane Ethanol Free Gas since new.

My MPG's to date:

Summer: 29.96 MPG
(stk 235/50-18 tires)
Winter: 30.31 MPG
(Michelin X-Ice 215/65-17)

with BAMA SCT tuner:
Winter 91S Tune: 29.80 MPG (2391 mi)
Winter 91P Tune: 31.35 MPG (869 mi)

O/A since new: 29.45 MPG (40,851 mi)

Historically (with other cars) I've always gotten worse MPG's in winter due to winter formula gasoline, but on this car the taller & skinnier snow tires improve MPG's and switch this loss into an actual gain.

Have not yet filled up from my current week of driving, but I think this will be the best MPG's on 1 tank of gas yet. Thanks to the Bama 91P Tune, my skinny snow's, and a weather & wind-free week my dash display currently shows 430.9 mi / 52-E /31.0 AM !!

FYI: All MPG figures are hand calculated and I reset my "Average Mileage" display every week.
