2013 Mustang Have a tire question

My 2013 v6 Performance Package manual transmission came with Pirelli P-Zero tires

The automatic comes with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

I dont know that much about tires yet.
Anyone know why? What is the difference between the two tires?

Ford has done similar things in the past, don't know why.

The Pirellis are a better performing tire though.

I bet the Goodyears are a harder tire helping them keep their lofty 31mpg claims on the auto. The manual is only rated for 29mpg, so it's not the focus of their mpg campaign.

Plus.....they put higher performing tires with the manuals because its assumed you'll be more into performance. The auto is usually a cruiser so have a mpg friendlier tire makes more sense.

The P-Zeros are a softer, high performance tire that will offer superior grip in warm temperatures. You are technically not supposed to drive them in the heavy cold since it can actually detriment the overall life of the tire (which isn't that high to begin with, my google-fu showed ~20K miles).

I assume the Goodyear is the base tire which is probably a low rolling resistance, high tread rating model for improved mileage and lifetime (I got 45K on my 08 V6) but they are not as sticky.

This is in reference to a car with the Performance Package so the goodyears won't be low rolling resistance gas saver tires.

As a matter of fact they are F1 Supercar tires, still not as good a performer as the Pirelli's.

It could be as simple as the engineers wanted a tire spec'd just for the automatic to differentiate them from the manual cars or the shift characteristics of the auto worked better with the goodyears.

Wooops, my bad...I think I read "auto" and automatically assumed that you can't get the PP with an auto transmission...is that a new thing in 2013?

Yes, in the 2013 MY you can get an auto on a PP car, just like you can on a brembo GT now.

Only on a regular automatic car, the car in question here has the Performance Package.

I have the goodyears also, and I must say they are great tires so far! I haven't had the pirelli's before so I couldn't say anything bad about them but they must be excellent tires if they're better than the goodyears f1s!
