MPT vs Bama tune

Today driving from work I happened to run into another 3.7 and we just had to get a few pulls in. My car has Airaid CAI gt500 catback exhaust and MPT race tune. His car had bbk long tubes full exhaust CAI and bama's 93R tune. We ran twice from a 40 roll. I ended up putting 2 cars on him. After the race he said he is defiantly switching tunes.

yea i couldn't believe there was that much of a difference in our cars

Did you guys have the same gears in the rear? That would would probably make a difference.

It really would, a 3.55:1 vs 3.73:1 or 3.31:1 vs 4.0:1 will make a difference.

Definitely need more information on the two cars to determine if the end result was from the tune or something else.

1. Hardtops or convertibles?
2. Automatic or manual trans?
3. Rear end gears?
4. Any passengers in the cars?
5. Weight of the drivers?

He should pull on you if he has headers no matter the tune I would think, unless you have 3.73 gears and he has 3.31 or 2.73 gears

Looking at one of the OP's other threads he has a Performance Package hardtop with a manual trans and 3.31 gears. We don't know what trans, gears, etc. the other car had.

Lol!!!!! I know the kid he raced. After he lost the races, immediately texted me and told me he was switching tunes. As some of you may know, I too ordered an MPT tune so that I can compare to BAMA. I mentioned it to him in passing and told him I would keep him posted. Guess he's convinced now!


He has a white base model 2011/2012 v6 coupe. Bama tune, airaid intake, BBK throttle body, BBK longtube headers with off road xpipe. Stock 2.73 gears and stock 17" wheels/tires. Automatic transmission.

He probably weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 - 185lbs.

I can tell you now that with all the mods above, in 2300+ DA he ran a 14 flat @ about 100mph. Best I managed that day was a 13.9. Gears help a lot

Well there's part of the reason. 2.73's vs the PP's 3.31 gears.

If I'm not too far off the mark, that's ballparked around 20% more torque to the wheels, and torque wins races.

Not saying that MPT isn't better, just there are more reasons why he would have been 2 cars behind.

Haha thats the kid I raced! My car has 3.31 gears and is a manual I weigh 190

Everything listed in this thread would definitely play a huge part in the out come of a 40 roll. We already know you have 3.31's and he has 2.73's, that's going to be the main difference and will definitely be the difference of at least a car in your favor. Depending if your car is Manual and his car is Auto, weight etc...

I wouldn't point fingers right to the tune. For every Bama Tune we ask you 19 questions about your specific Mustang, including your unique mods and style of driving. This info helps us write custom tunes from the ground-up for your Mustang's mods that will give you the most horsepower that we can safely deliver. We're also constantly developing our tunes! Between our 14 different Project Mustangs and tons of street/track and dyno testing (on our in-house Dynojet 224xLC), we're looking for any minor tweaks to be made that can benefit you guys. Our 2011 V6 actually holds the record for the first V6 into the 11's, check it out!

We definitely have every aspect of these cars figured out. Im not say its just the tune but I think it may of played a part. Ill break my car and his car down.

My car 3.31 gears manual. His 2.73 Gears auto
My car stock exhaust manifolds His BBk long tubes
My car stock xpipe His car bbl x pipe
My car Gt500 catback his car wasnt sure what brand
My car air aid CAI his car same
My car stock throttle body his car bbk
My car MPT tune his car bama

If 3.31 gears and a manual trans makes that much of a difference then thank god I bought what I bought lol
