Default K/N Vs. JLT Vs. Roush

Hey guys in all honesty for those of you with or with out a CAI, How much difference are we talking about in HP and TQ with the JLT Air intake vs. the K/N Drop in filter, and Roush intake? Would the Roush really have anything over the K/N with it being a conical style filter? Are they all within 3 to 4 HP? I know most power is coming from a tune, which I already have! Any suggestions on freeing up some extra HP cheaply? I am waiting until warrenty is up before long tubes, then it's game on!! :hihi:

Cold air intakes have been unoffically proven to be all mental for the most part. Like you said, almost all of that power is coming from a tune. Sure it helps in response, and it helps your engine run cooler. But thats about it. Nobody actually dyno's their car after JUST swapping a CAI. For the ones who did that ive seen, they only gained 5-8 hp off of it (going from 87 to 93 octane will give you a better HP result than that). But there is an equal amount of people that have shown no gains after adding one. And as far as company claims go, they can claim anything they want. I read an ad in MM&FF for a cold air kit that added 35hp. Thats more than a Cam swap. Now after saying all of that. Dont get me wrong, it is still a worthwhile mod that is much better over stock. But as far as your question goes, just get something cheap, because its going to give you the same result as the other. K&N especially. They are just a name brand. Theyre like Apple computers. Its not a bad product, but youre going to pay twice the price, to do the same basic function, just for the name.

I assume you want just CAI numbers without a tune. If that is the case, I don't think there is more then a 1 HP difference between them (CAIs) and just droppingg in a K&N filter.

I hear Airaid makes the best results with a tune. But without a tune it is just a large K&N filter. I understand that there is absolutely no power gain difference between the two. Remember, your stock system is a CAI.

I would love to see Bama tune results with a simple K&N and tune vs Airaid CAI and tune. I bet they are identical.

Dam,

Getting buggy. I just noticed you said you already had a tune. Time to go to bed. LOL

I made 4-5 hp and 9 tq with the roush.(same day/same hour/ same condtions.) For 199 you cant beat it IMO. Oh and add roush mufflers too. I have since added a SCT tuner but havent gone on the dyno since.

I would love to see the dyno sheet when you go. Someone on here posted they got a 3-5 HP gain with just the K&N filter change. Makes you wonder if CAI is worth it?

I wish someone would post an apples to apples comparison. Maybe we can get Mythbusters to do it. LOL

I am going to do it just for the look. LOL

My car was used for an upcoming article with a before and after of the airaid no-tune. The dyno results prove everyone posing in this thread are wrong. The roush and k&n are basically worthless, the airaid is not, and the jlt also makes solid gains.

Were the dyno tests done with the hood up or down?

Were back to back track tests done?

If the hood is up the aftermarket CAI has a very large opening to draw air though versus the hood down, unless the intake is not sealed to the hood.

The only back to back track testing I have read was by a poster that reported no gain with CAI over a drop in K&N.

i want to see a chart.
I planned on getting a JLT carbon fiber for the looks.
I hate how "cheap" the airaid looks.

Well said Jerry. The only apples to apples comparisons I have seen posted or printed, have shown no gain with CAI over a drop in K&N. I will be anxious to read his article.

I understand that every published test done with Airaid, including the numbers put out by American Muscle were done and video taped with the hood up. Not exactly apples to apples as the K&N is locked in the air box.

With that being said. I do believe that a CAI with tune will deliver more HP then a K&N and tune (probably not much more), and the type of CAI and tune would come into play at that point. Does the CAI and tune put out more HP then a K&N and tune, well we will just have to wait and see.

All this debate is academic until someone actually posts an apples to apples comparison.

thanks for the input guys I wish we have 2 GT's stock except one with CAI and one with a K/N drop in, and line them up and see how that goes, then strap them to the dyno with both hoods down!! But for some reason I don't think that is going to happen for sometime!

Mine was almost half the cost. And the K&N cost about as much some orders cost to ship...
