For the blown 5.0s out there, are you guys running the stock h pipe and cats? Or aftermarket high flows? I'm worried that my cats will get fried soon cause I can feel the heat emanating through the center console/ floor board after spirited driving. Problem is I don't want to run off road pipe. I'm only putting down 500 on the stock Edelbrock kit and tune.
I'm running the stock exhaust. I'll probably switcch to an off road set up soon but am definitely staying away from hi flows. They don't do too well under boost.

Shelby GT500, GT350, Roush Stage 3, Saleen SC, all run fine with the factory cats.

Nice job being useful.

Dont let the heat fool you. Your stock exhaust is probably fine - esp with a stock Edelbrock kit and tune. These cars are just hot runners when driven in a spirited fashion. Besides its not worth the hassle and potential trouble in CA to mess with it anyways. In a state thats defined by its car culture its OK to consider the environmental impact.
I called and spoke to Justin at VMP about this last summer. There were guys posting that they knew guys who were melting cats, and that SCs had to have hi-flow cat setups, etc. He told me to quit listening to dumb-asses online, and that as far as his tunes were concerned the cats will always be fine.

I was under the impression that the stock cats were high flow. Does anyone know if that is true?

Why would you want to run cats??? You're not one of those environmental wacko's are you?
Because despite the fact that some of us really don't care about how people think about our environmental impact as much as performance, it smells awful and some of us who daily drive our cars don't want to deal with it on a day to day basis. Weekend warriors, fine, but I'd rather save my nostrils.

My cats got clogged so I punched them out, and have a new set of OEM cats sitting in my garage for my smog test that I purchased after my cats clogged.
I went with an X and have my factory laying under a table, but there is no testing in here in FL. If I were you I would swap them out and just keep the factory pipe for when testing time comes around. 30-45 min swap keeps everyone happy!

My neighbor melted his cats on his lightly modded GT500(it did have aftermarket high flow cats), they completely blocked of the exhaust and destroyed the engine block and internals. Whomever tells you it's ok to use cats, stock or HF on a boosted setup( SC, TC, or NoS) ask them if they fail and destroy your motor if they will cover the repair.

IIRC, it was the factory tune and blower, but regardless, the component that failed and eventually caused the engine failure was not OEM. He now has one of the best sounding mustangs I've ever heard..
