So this year I have seen the light and got a winter beater rather than try to drive the Mustang during the winter. My car lives in a heated garage (with a temperature around 50) but I have no intention of driving it unless it's above freezing and dry, which can be rare here this time of year.

So my question is how long can my car sit without driving before I have to worry about the battery? I have an cheap 2/10 battery charger. Is that good enough to hook up once in awhile or do I need a legit battery tender?

I bought a battery tender at Harbor Freight Tools,it cost me $12.00 and it works great,hook it up and your good to go, no more worries,or discharged battery.

Have stored mine for four months with even stating it once in awhile, locked storage and no access, and had no problem. I had been warned by someone to make sure the radio was turned off.

I put mine on charge for a few hrs 1x a month. I think that is more than needed but simple enough.....I do leave the drivers window craked down 1/2 inch due to the auto indexing windows. I think a full tank and Stable is more important use the funnel in trunk to prevent spills

I put on my battery tender. It has three way to connect which makes it nice. The first is with the clips, second is with connecting leads to it that stay on the battery then plug into the tender and third (the way I use) is the cig lighter connection. Plug it into the cig lighter and it keeps it charged that. Mine has a charge option and a winter maintenance mode for slow charging. I would buy one if I was you. Cheap insurance compared to a dead battery to replace one day down the road.

Battery Tender or equivalent. Even if you periodically charge it with the alternator or a conventional charger, in between charges the plates will sulfate and the total capacity and life of the battery will diminish

I read somewhere that the battery discharges at the rate of 1% per day.

Batteries can lose as much as 25% of their charge over just a 3 month span. All that is needed to bring it back is a slow 2 Amp or less trickle charge done for 4-6 hrs. (we always did ours overnight)
Battery Tender or similar device is what I always recommended when I worked for Interstate Batteries. Best are the ones which turn on and off automatically. These keep the battery at peak charge all the time.

Also Keep in mind that an alternator is NOT a charger it is a maintainer.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I just get a tender for some cheap insurance.
