If you have not noticed, if you have a manual the cup holders are in the most retarded location. Immediately after getting my car they bugged me. I was not going to deal with that stupidness for the next 4-5 years so I had to do so something to resolve this problem. I saw someone reference ultimatecupholder.com once and ordered a pair hoping for the best. I got them in and they ended up working great. I've mentioned in this in another recent thread and got requests for pics.... so here you go...
This is the cup holder itself, the top I basically just bent straight-ish, took very little force. You just get it 'close' and then they fit, you just jam them up between the carpet and plastic (see following pics). Its just friction that holds everything in place, you can pull them out and put them back in 2 seconds. No screws or anything else.
To give you idea, my chair is all the way back and all the way down-- this is how I always have it. Usually the drink holder thing is an inch further back so its basically touching the chair-- I just had someone sititng in the back of car tonight and so I had moved the seat up and it pushed the cup holder forward a little. I didn't really notice when taking pic. Also in shot is cup holder from passenger side, just put it there so for size reference, probably 2-3 inches of crap up under plastic center .. uh.. console thingy. Thats enough to hold it in place.
Uh two other pics. Basically when sitting in car driving around, you just kinda read down there and you drink is right where you expect. With no drinks, you'll really never notice these things are even there.
Oh yeah, also, I usually have 20oz bottles or cans of soda in them-- works perfect. Their stainless steel but pretty thin, its not really easy to bend like they're not going to last, but you can bend them if needed if you usually have huge drinks. The tall thin water bottles are kinda small and will usually not be striaght up and down but whatever, if yo uuse these all the time you can probably bend the thing to support htem better.
Anyways, the things are kinda expensive I think, but they look nice and work perfect. I think mostly they sell to BMW owners or something so IMO thats how they get way charging so much . Oh yeah that reminds me of another thing... they don't really have any for a 'Mustang'. I bought some random one for a 325i or something. My order doesn't show which I bought, so I emailed the guy ask asked if he has a record of which I actually bought... or if there is anything even different between or if there is just one model he sends to everyone. I bought these like 3 months ago or something, if the guy replies back Monday I'll update this thread to state exactly which I bought.
LOL Never thought I'd make a long ass post about a cup holder but before I got these I was always pissed off at the retarded location of the cup holders in this car.
Nice write up & it looks like an excellent option. I often stop for coffee in the morning & think this is the answer. Unobtrusive, practical, out of sight, and best of all giving me full access to shift.
I also have one of these...and I concur that they're excellent. Beverages stay rock solid in these things, and you can bend them to fit your container size.
I emailed Mike who owns the business and he recommended the BMW E39 5-series cupholders. I bought one and it works great.
FWIW, I chose to mount mine on the passenger side, so it's a bit of a reach but still accessible.
I guess that would be far enough back that your leg wouldn't collide with it. It would keep the loose coins that always end in the cupholder from getting sticky too, I hate that, LOL.
I guess the only drawback would be any drips would be on the rug instead of held inside the cupholder. Not completely ruling it out though.

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.

Thats a pretty good product but looks like you need the " ultimate vacum " instead....lol
LOL it is getting a little dirty down there.
Also I got reply back, I bought the E46 M3. He says the E39 5 series is a little lower and easier to slide in. I think mine are pretty easy to put in / take out, maybe its because I bent them up a little. Either way though, seems as though either choice will work.
Here is his description on how to decide which to get:

These are an excellent product. One thing that I have also noticed is that the cupholder is located a good 12-18 inches lower than the stock location. This results in slightly less "slosh" which helps with the carbonated beverages.
