How difficult is it to remove the engine cover and valve covers to get them painted? Also as the valve covers will be off about how long will the car be undrivable in terms of rough turn around time to paint them and reinstall?

Not sure about the valve covers, but the engine cover just pops off and snaps back on.
Awesome, time to get some Kona Blue action going on them! Do they need to be painted with a high temp paint?
I just painted mine with regular krylon. All the covers are plastic and do not sit directly on the engine. I've had mine painted for about two days now, and the spray paint is holding up nicely. Once the covers go through a few heat cycles, the paint will be "baked on".

Oh you hand painted with a can? I was thinking about taking them to a body shop that way I can get a better match to the Kona Blue Mettalic
Yup, good ol rattle can spray paint. Ya, if you're wanting the Kona Blue color; you will have to go to a body shop or go to Color Rite's website and see if they have it.

How much did the primer and paint run you? Both spray? This seems like the smart way to go. A shop would charge an arm and a leg. Even for something as simple as this. I bet the OP can find a blue that could match the Kona.. I might have to search as well for a Candy red to match mine. Actually, yours looks perfect for me! What color red did you use? ...

Primer & paint, about 8 bucks. Yes, both can's were spray.
I just used bright red. Went off the color on the cap on the can.

I painted mine ford blue. I went to pepboys and got some degreaser that was safe to use on plastic and ford blue spray paint. Total cost $16.98.
The covers pop off. You need remove the line to the PCV value. You will need to have a screw driver to pop the tab off of one of the PCV value tubes. Away from the car, spay the degreaser on. Make sure all the grease is off of the coil cover. Make sure it is dry. Put the coil cover on a raised surface like a brick. Spray a light coat of spray paint. Let it sit in the sun for 15-20 minutes. Spray your second light coat. Let it sit in the sun for 15-20 minutes. Spray your third coat. Make the last coat is a medium coat. Let it dry for 24 hours. Let it bake in the sun. Put the coil cover back. It's that easy.
I painted mine with a can 4 months and over 4000 miles ago and they still look like the day I put them on. I think the total cost for paint and primer was $15.
Talking to the paint shop guys, they told me to use an adhesion promoter before painting as the coil covers are plastic.
I did that, then painted my coil covers with Grabber Blue standard automotive paint custom mixed in a rattle can. I gave them 4 coats and power dried between each coat with a heat gun. Took about 30 minutes to paint after letting the adhesion promoter dry for 3 hours. I did not use the clear coat on top because I wanted more of a flat finish to go with the rest of the engine cover.
Looks like factory and is holding up perfectly.
