Default OEM parts source/Boss 302 shift knob

I've stumbled upon links here before that cite a favorite online source for OEM parts but can't find any-- could someone provide their favorite source? I have to have the new Boss 302 shift knob (among other small items), even before my GT gets here...

Thanks! Available already... I'll put it on my desk at work until the car arrives.

Anyone knows what size is that Boss shift knob? Is it 2.0 or 2.5 inch?

I'm hesitating between the Boss one or get a custom one from GrabberPony.com - Shift Knobs in Mustang Colors (Powered by CubeCart)

It seemed to be the same to me when I saw it yesterday... Wish I looked closer, cause I'm thinking about getting that shift knob now.

The Boss shift knob is 2". Size wize its just like the aluminum one on the 401A interior, and it fits the 401A boot. So if your car has the regular shift knob you would also have to change out the boot.
I bought mine from partscheap.com (someone else posted the link). I like it.

I'm bumping this thread up instead of making a new one.

Does anybody know what the thread pitch/diameter is for the Boss 302 shift knob?

If you get this knob and you have a base interior, you need a base adaptor or it looks funky. Also, this knob will fuse itself to your shifter even with a hand tightened install. Ask me how I know.

Installation is pretty simple - just be careful not to scratch any outer plastics or pull any wires.

First, you will need to unscrew the original shift knob by grabbing it and turning it counterclockwise. It may take a bit of force to get it started, but the knob should be easy to remove.

Once the knob is off, you will need to remove the center console to get to the boot support. There are videos on YouTube showing how to do this, but basically the process is: Grab the console between the cup holder and the center cubby and pull up to get the first support out, and then just carefully get the rest of the supports out along the way by pulling directly up on them (i.e. don't flex the plastic from the end). Finally, there are two small guide posts in the front of the center console to keep it aligned, so the console slides out a little bit once all the bottom supports are unsnapped.

Before taking the console completely out, you will need to disconnect three cables on its bottom (the cable going to the front buttons, the one for the center console lights, and one more) - make sure you press on the tabs holding them in place to release them, and they should come out easily.

Once the console is out, you'll see the boot is held via plastic tabs securing a plastic ring - simply use a screwdriver or similar to press on the tabs without breaking them while pulling on the plastic ring. Install the new boot by placing its ring in the tabs, connect back the center console cables, insert the center console back in place (ensuring shift shaft is through the boot ring and not poking the leather), press down on the center console until the supports snap back in place, and screw the new shift knob back in. The new shift knob will fit the shift boot ring, so be careful not to twist the boot while tightening the shift knob (i.e. don't pull on the leather while tightening the knob).

I've probably made this sound more complicated than it actually is - just watch a couple of YouTube videos of other people removing the console and you'll get the general idea. Good luck!

I just installed mine and all I gotta say is: holy hell. For something so simple turned out to be 2hr job. Unhooking the base boot from the plastic clips was hell. I was able to unhook all but one. And that one hook was made in hell and wouldn't let loose. I tried unhooking them back to front, front to back, side to side..didn't matter, that one hook/clip was a pain. I ended up breaking the small plastic clip on the old boot just to get it off since I wouldn't be using it anymore since I got the new boot with the ball knob.
But I must say....the new knob LOOKS and FEELS amazing compared to the crap stub from before.

I'm a little uncertain whether I need the shift boot or not with this knob. I have a v6 premium.
