Default key battery life?

Just got a 2012 v6 prem/331 gears....love it!, but since it's the first car I've had since my 1992 truck, I have no idea how long the batteries in the mustang's keys last. Any input from you guys that have had these type of keys for a while:?:

The key fob battery in my 2006 GT was working well when I traded the car to a dealer in September 2010, so that's 4 years. .

Those are only for the push start ignition cars.

The keys fobs are advertised as lasting 10 years of regular use.

Plus, you can replace them, and the replacements are dirt cheap. Amazon.com: (25) CR2016 Lithium Button Cell 3V Batteries: Electronics

yea the bmws are just keyless fobs, to charge them you stick them were the ignition would be. nissan also does this as well as the prius (and im sure other companys too). but your fob should last a long time, long enough not to worry about it

From what I have seen with my last car, and the cars of various friends and family, 4 to 7 years seems to be the norm. Batteries are cheap, the only pain is if you have to reprogram the fob to the car.

If you put a sun reflector on the windshield, it cuts the range of key FOB in half leading one to think the FOB battery is run down.

I traded in my Mazda 6 for my Mustang, had it for 6 1/2 years. Never replaced the battery in the remote, although I think the range decreased a bit over the years.

I have had a couple of Fords with the key fob for 4 years a piece and never replaced the batteries. Now my Nissan Maxima has the push start where you don't need to remove the key from your pocket. I have owned it for 2.5 years and have had to replace the batteries in both key fobs already. BTW, the Maxima does not charge the fob battery when you connect it to the car.

our nissan you could pull apart the fob and there was a key in it to stick in the ignition to charge. the batteries were crap though.

i would say on all our other keys its 4-5 years and the dealer will change them for you and reprogram them if you have a good relationship with your service adviser.
