I have a quick question for y'all, and I did try searching, but apparently I couldn't find anything relating exactly to what I was trying to ask, so if there is already a forum on it, please post it because I didn't find one.
So I just bought a 2012 GT 5.0 a few months ago. It has 5k miles. I also purchased a Magnaflow tru x off road x from a guy I knew. So before I go to install it, I figured I should look into a tune as well to maximize gains and to eliminate the CEL that is sure to follow. Well I started reading horror stories of cylinder 8 issues so I backed off of the tuner for now, hoping that if it is a tune issue, that it'll be straightened out soon. So my question is, if I were to install the X and didn't tune, other than the cel and lack of extra power if it were tuned, would it damage the car in any way? I will eventually tune, but for now what would be the consequences of installing w/o a tune?
Thanks again guys. And I hope to become a very active member here!
I wouldn't do it w/o a tune. The tuners have solved the #8 issuee a while ago. I think you would cause more damage w/o a tune. If your not comfortable tuning the car, dont add that part. As it wont give you any increased performance anyway.
Okay so it did get fixed for sure? And who is the better company to go with? I was looking at Bama because of the free tune if I made any changes. Thanks ghipera!
There's nothing to worry without a tune other than the rear cat CEL's. However, I wouldn't do it like that because you will never know if your car throw a CEL for something serious from your CEL being on 24/7. Also, if you are worried about the #8 issue than go with a tuner such as bama who offer this specific warranty just in case.

Has anyone lately had that #8 issue? Most threads I've come across have been around a year old or so. Thanks! I'll probably go through bama then!
No. It's an non issue. It's like asking if any LS(x) engines have had a cylinder head crack lately. Well...if you push the tune too much or if you don't do it right, then yeah, something's bound to break.

Other person the best tune u can get would most likely be a bama tune from Americanmuscle.com using and sct sf3 or whatever it's called from them. Free tunes fir life and they warranty the #8 issue so if there tune blows something they will replace it. NO OTHER TUNNER OR COMPANY OFFERS THIS. Some people will tell you if you come in the dealer for warranty work. They will see that your tunned and automatically void your engine warranty. Some will tell you ford has to prove the tune caused an issue.

I heard nothing but great things about tunes from Sean at AED. My buddy runs his tune on his 5.0 and the car moves. I wouldn't waste money on an intake, the stock intake does the best job of isolating the filter from the hot underhood air. If you want to waste $300, go for it, but that money could go elsewhere and be better used.

+10 on the AED tune ,shaun really knows his stuff and his customer service it second to none. You will have to data log for him though and hes more expensive but worth every penny. I would not install the Xpipe with out a tune #8's are very far and few now.

Thanks for the responses you guys. It's extremely helpful! It's also reassuring that you say the #8 issue doesn't happen anymore, or very few at least. I will definitely leave the x off then until I order a tuner! And for now I will pass on a CAI, as more people have told me it isn't worth it than that it is. you guys rock!
