Are dealers supposed to proactively address recalls when you visit them ?
Hello,
As many 2013+ Mustang owners, I have been issued a PCM recall.
When I visited a dealer a few days ago for an oil change, I forgot to mention it and the issue wasn't addressed.
Question: Is it right? Aren't dealers supposed to proactively address active recalls on the car when I visit them?
I am just trying to set the right expectations for the future - should I be watching for recalls myself vs relying on the dealers.
Thanks!

not sure if they are suppose too. I do know, when I had my mazda 6. I went too the dealer for a oil change. They did two recalls on the car without my knowlege. I was pissed, since I didn't approve the work. If they would've told me about the recalls, i've would've been cool.

I would think any notices would have to come directly from Ford as they would want/need to have the documentation that the information was provided.
TSBs might be handled differently.

If you love your dog, get a microchip, they really work! My lost dog was back home in just under 24 hours thanks to the good citizens who called the county and the microchip that told animal control exactly where he lived.
Ford uses a system called Oasis that is supposed to be their network for all information about your vehicle as well as diagnostic measures. When your vehicle is brought in for service some of the things they do is enter your VIN into the system to verify warranty coverage as well as possible recalls. The responsibility of notifying owners of recalls is up to the manufacturer, but the dealers are at least supposed to be aware. It is possible the PCM recall had not made it to the dealers when you were there for service, but you would have to ask.
TSB's are only for technical assistance and are not meant for customers. They are merely diagnostic guidelines for technicians when dealing with common and/or widespread issues.

Recalls are federally mandated and dealers are required to perform the work regardless of customer approval, even if the car is years out of warranty. In some cases the manufacturer is responsible for reimbursing the customer for travel costs if the repairs leaves the customer without a vehicle.

My dealership has always checked my VINs for any recalls or TSB,s when brought in. All the work the dealership can find is money in their pocket so it is in their interest to check. Good luck!

Yes they should. Just like life we all mess up either by mistake or lack of effort. This is only true if it really was a recall....well the part about them doing it automatically.
I know on my Toyota recall I didn't need the paperwork when I brought it in.
On another note I just got a notice from Honda saying my Loves 2008 CRV due to problems with the A/C they are extending the A/c wtty to something like 7yrs 100K miles. Nice!

Hi 3.7_DD,
The info provided by Grimace427, is correct. You can PM me with your VIN, so I can check if this Emissions Recall applies to your vehicle. You can also check on your own here. I hope this helps.
The recall was already up on my VIN when I visited the dealer a few days ago for an oil change - I could see that information through the Ford Owners web site. But I didn't mention this and they didn't address it proactively.
Was it their miss, or they were supposed to get to me later and I just wasn't patient enough?

I know when vehicles are in for an oil change (only), it goes through the “Quick Lane” to get you in and out without having you wait longer than you have to. I always recommend it being mentioned by my customers, if it’s not going in for any repairs/concerns.

My wife's Pontiac had a safety recall. We received a letter from GM in November stating there was a safety recall and that we needed to WAIT until January and schedule an appointment to have it taken care of. I was baffled that there was a safety concern, but we needed to wait a couple of months to have it addressed??? Maybe they were waiting on the parts or something, but if that's the case why not wait to send out the letters. It only took 15 minutes to fix it once it was scheduled.
