Would you tune and swap gears on a brand new 2014?
Hey all,
I'm looking at getting a 2014 model V6 when I get back from deployment, but I am concerned about voiding the warranty with a BAMA tune and a gear swap. I've read threads about the pros and cons and I was wondering how many of you would go ahead and tune it, or wait until the warranty was over.
I would just order the car with the gearing you want. Silly to swap gears on a new car unless you are buying off the lot.
I would not be afraid of tuning right away, however...especially with an engine that has been out for a few years. I didnt tune my 5.0 because: it was fast enough (moot point).. and I bought it so soon after it was released. I dont think even the best tuners understood this engine until recently. The 3.7 (and 5.0) has (have) been out for long enough for the tuners to know what to do without messing things up.
Not really, I'll be getting a 2014 V6 with FP6 package for 19,200 before tax, tag and title...
Now if I add the 3.31 gearing it'll be about $19,600, still nowhere near what a GT is.
I'm leaning towards just adding the gearing and being content until the warranty runs out.
yeah but they allways start out with just a tune and gears... then somehow a driveshaft, axlebacks, shorty headers then decided for long tubes, so on and so forth.
basically mods are like drugs.

If I go with a tune I might as well get 3.55 or 3.73 gears. The reason I would go with 3.31 is because I could still have the warranty. I know BAMA knows their stuff but they offer no warranty if something goes wrong and then I'm potentially out thousands.
you will feel a huge change going from 2:73s to 3:31s, don't listen to them, you wont feel a difference going from 3:31 to 3:55s
if you do a ton of highway driving 3:73s will poop on your MPGs even though people swear they get 28 mpgs going 85 with 3:73s

So, without further ado, vote!
It sounds like you're getting a really awesome deal on a 2014 V6, Congratulations! If you're going to throw a set of gears in there, I would probably go with 3.73's. They're definitely going to be your best bang for the buck!
I would recommend getting a tune for your new Sixxer at some point, however if you're worried about the warranty try and hold on as long as possible! Just give your local ford dealership a call and see if they'll void your warranty, some dealerships will not.
I hope this helps! Most importantly, Thank you for your Server and Bravery.

First, like the others, let me thank you for your service to our great country - keeping us free where we can still obtain great performance cars like the Mustang!
Second, two years ago I was faced with the same decision for my then-new 2012 V-6 convertible. Came with 2.73 gears and no choice to obtain anything else when I ordered it. Even if ordering a coupe you can only get 3.31 as OEM.
Shortly after purchase I installed a Bama tune - then a Airraid CAI kit - then went with 3.73 gears and the awesome MGW shifter. Totally transformed my car, didn't look back and would do it over again in a heartbeat!
Hope this helps - keep us posted... pls be careful.
