Default Poll. 2011-2012 GT 500 vs 2015+GT

Well it has finally happened. 2011-2012 Shelbys have popped up every where with low mileadge (6k to 20k) for 42k to 44k (40k if you dont mind an 11 in grabber blue).

Thes GT500s all pretty much come with either the nav package or the SVT package (havent seen too many with both).

Here is my question, i was just seriously considering the 2015 supposed high 400hp version thats rumored to come out "after the initial production run" of which will probably retail for around 36k new (at some future point in about 1+ year from now) when i noticed these GT 500s popping up (nearly every Ford dealership has one and Car max has 5 withink 250 miles.

Putting this pole out there...which would you buy?

The Shelby. Why? It's a Shelby. It has 100 less horsepower than the 13's? So what, it's still a Shelby.

I've noticed the same thing as you.

I have a 2011 GT and was thinking I was going to get a 2015 or 2016 GT with the improved 5.0. Now I'm pretty certain the GT500 is the way to go.

I had a 2008 Corvette Z06 and was trying to decide if I should buy a decked out 2014 C7 Vette or keep the Z06. Well same thing has happened to ZR-1's that happened to the Shelby, the bottom fell out. I replaced the Z06 with the ZR-1 and it was definitely the right choice. I was able to find a decked out ZR-1 in the right color for $30,000 less than new.

There is nothing like having the top dog of the pack and the ZR-1 and the GT500 are the top dogs until the new ZR-1 and GT500 arrive. I don't think the replacement for the GT500 is going to have as much horsepower. That's the number that people strive for as a collector car and that's the number that gets a Wow factor.

I think additionally the GT500 is such a good driving car that even though the 2015 is going to have the IRS, I think the GT500 will handle better and run a road course faster. I'm certain the GT500 will rule stoplight to stoplight and the drag strip.

Lastly, I don't think there will be much depreciation past where they are now with them as long as the miles are right. So if you decide a year from now you made the wrong choice, you eat the $2-3,000 in depreciation and go for the new 2015 or 16 GT.

EDIT: It's late and I didn't engage the brain completely. I'm thinking 2013 GT500 is what I'm going to do. But now that you have brought the low prices on the 2011-2012 cars to my attention, I'm not sure it's worth the extra 10-15,000 for the 2013.

FWIW the two i have my eye on are.
1) 2011 Shelby with 23k miles and SVT package for 40k in grabber blue
2) 2011 Shelby with Nav and 7k miles in race red for 42k

The grabber blue looks like they are doin some low interest rate financing as well. I sent them an email and told them i would buy it for 37k tomorrow if they would take it.

I guess maybe ill get to add Shelby member to my list to the left if they need christmas money and say yes.

Ha ha.

Efit. There is also an 11 race red with 6k miles and svt pckg for 42,500 in the mix. Like i said, these things are every where right now.

Grabber blue or race red.......hmmmm.

Shelby all day everyday. Lots and I mean Lots of room to grow power wise with one of those puppies and that being fairly easily and inexpensively. But most of all its a Shelby.

Just think, the LT4 in the new C7 Z06 is going to be putting out 600-650 hp.

I voted for the 2015 Mustang. Considering the 2015 GT will run with a Boss 302, only better and faster things will come. It shouldn't take much tweaking to get in to GT500 territory.

The model that really has my interest is the Ecoboost Mustang. My Mazda 6 has the V6 and I've driven the 4-cylinder version. Though not as fast in a straight line, the weight savings over the frontend was very noticeable. I'm curious if the Ecoboost Mustang will display similar advantages in handling.

Ummm........Shelby GT500. What kind of question is that? The Shelby is top of the line already and comes supercharged and tons of options.

The new GT is..ok, but I wouldn't buy one the first year its out...again. (been there done that with the new 5.0)

Comparisons to the 2015 Mustang aside, I'd be hesitant to buy a used GT500 (or, for that matter, a used Mustang GT) due to concerns about how it had been treated. Any candidate would have to be a one-owner car, and ideally I'd want to talk to that owner and get a feel for what kind of guy he is.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy such a car. I am saying I'd be most wary.

If you want a new 2011 or 2012 GT500, let me know. They have em' for 15K off sticker (did, anyway) at my local dealership. It's quite a drive, but maybe you can work it out. They had about 6 left before it started snowing.

There was a dealership here like that. Until summer of this year they had a 2011 GT500 in the showroom. The dealership employees regularly took turns going out back and smoked the crap out of the tires. They would go drive it hard, clean it up and put it back. Everyone knew it too. That's why it sat there for so long.

Yea, i have seen some of those 11s and 12s linger on the lots also, but with the SVT package they were only discounted to around 48k.

The difference between 48k and 43k is the difference between me not buying one and buying one. One of these has only 6k miles for 42,500, but i like the black one a bit better and it has the shaker 1,0000 (see below)

Checked out interest rates. It seems the 12s are a 1/2 point lower in interest.

Im having this one shipped (ill include a link but it might not work for long).

http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/...esults:results

Edit: Shipped does not mean i bought it. When i told carmax i used the vin on this one to put out a feeler for what my fiancing would be, they pretty mcuh insisted they go ahead and ship it to a local dealership for me to check out (its free).

FWIW im not in texas, i changed the display because i had previously had a dude buy a local car out from under me when he saw me asking about it on here.....
