Default Manual or Auto Trans

I am going to purchase a new Mustang V6 in a month or so and am undecided if I should get a manual or auto trans. This will be a base Mustang, no perf package. I have driven both. I have read about many problems with the MT82 but it is definitely more fun. Will the mileage be about the same if I drive them both the same?

The manual is always more fun! The auto isn't bad at all, its alot better then other trans. Its not the AOD or AODE that was in the fox cars. But since your getting a base with 2.73 gears. Your going to change them out after a while anyways. So just pick what you like most. As far as MPG, the auto will win out because of the adaptive learning crap.

Manual all the way. In my opinion it really brought the car to life. I haven't driven a tuned auto but the stock feeling was NOT good for me.

If you can drive a manual, drive it well, and don't have rush hour traffic everywhere you go, the manual is a no-brainer. If the opposite is true, the automatic is a no brainer.

The Manual is rated 2 miles less than the Auto, have had the auto in my 2010 I still got the Manual in the 2013.
I would look at the Performance package also, Santiago Canyon, Azusa Canyon and Ortega Highway are calling you

All depends on how much time you spend on the Freeway going between 0 and 10 mph...which is common in your area. Too much of that and you are best off with the auto.

Personal choice...you could not get me into an auto...don't know how to drive one.

The Mustang will be my only car and my commute is about 17 miles, about 1/3 fwy, the rest surface streets. The surface street is traffic why I am even considering the auto.

manual, ive not had a single problem with mine.

Most of the mt82 problems are with the 5.0, and its very rare, for every person that complains of problems, 1000 people have no problem and don't mention anything.

I used to drive a truck up and down the 91 and 55 Freeway as well as driving my 4 speed 73 Cougar around when I lived in Garden Grove, not as bad as you think.

That's nothing. I drive just over 30 miles each way to work ... and I'd never consider an automatic transmission. .. maybe if I was driving a Gran Marquis, Oldsmobile Delta 88 or a Uhaul van. But a Mustang? no way.

I was going to get the Auto so my wife could drive the Stang if she needed to. She talked me into getting the manual and I have no regrets at all. The nice thing about the manual in traffic is the car's idle will keep the car going in first with no pressure on the gas. Nice for slow traffic days.

Get the manual. It's much more of a driver's car that way. Plus, the auto is more designed for fuel economy, so it's constantly upshifting to the highest gear possible to give you higher fuel economy. You can get a tune to correct the issue, but if you aren't interested in tuning the car, then you're stuck with the stock programming. You can use the same shifting philosophy in the manual to save gas, but you're the one in control. Plus save a few lbs on the car and initial purchase price of about $1,000 that you can keep in your pocket or spend toward modifications if that's your thing.

Exactly. Just do a good test drive to ensure the MT is working correctly. Unless you spend a majority of your driving tine in bumper to bumper traffic the MT is tons more fun to drive, and the occasional burnouts are cool too.

Coming from a guy who drives an automatic and has bad Orlando traffic to and from work, I'd probably go for the M6. I track my car often so even though it fun to bang through gears, the consistancy of the auto is phenominal.

That being said though, for a DD, i'd recommend the manual. I drive my friends '12 V6 sometimes with stick and it's way more enjoyable than even my tuned auto. I'm much faster but his car feels a lot better. More in tune with the car and road.
