I'm not a motor head and frankly don't understand half of what's discussed on this site but I really need some advice from you guys. My first car that was anything hotter than a ****ing Honda Accord was my 2007 GT premium 5 speed. I loved that ****ing car. When I dropped it to second and it cut tires again and the back end made that big hop to the left...... YUMMY!!!!. So I traded it in for a 2015 GT Premium 6 speed a month or so ago. First, everything design wise (looks, ride....) is awesome!!!!. I didn't even know about the pony light shining from the mirror until I got it home and my 17 year old son got out of the car and said "WTF!!!!". So here's why I'm posting this. First, sorry but it just feels slower. Is that because the ride/independent suspension sticks to the road so much better that I can't feel the acceleration? Second, the pipes - UGH. My 4.6 had such a better sound. When I started the 07 in my garage in the morning it woke all the neighbors. I'm lucky if the dog roles over for this one. Finally, the drive modes feel almost like no change. Should I be feeling a dramatic difference when I go from normal to track or is it so subtle that a guy like me (see above) wouldn't notice it? Don't get me wrong, I still love the car. It's just not everything I expected. You'd think going from 305HP to 435HP would feel like a HUGE difference. Not feeling it. Please let me know your thoughts. Do I have a dud? Am I just whining? Thanks!!!
As the current owner of an '07 GT and a 15 GT I'm not sure how to respond to your inquiry. You have caught me completely flat footed.
The difference in performance between the two is like night and day. No joke!
My only possible thought is you might be mistaking the refined qualities of the 15 over the blunt force trauma of the '07 as something less then what you had before.
The 15 is a much better "world" car giving it some refinement and quality that the older models didn't have in order to move the needle and make this Mustang the best of all worlds. Brute force but with a nod to some of it's European competition.
I have owned 9 BMWs and this Mustang is getting damn close to the level of quality of some of those cars. (still a little bit too much hard plastic and cheaper materials...can they please put a hand grab on the inside of the trunk lid like my BMWs so I don't have to get my fingerprints on the outside of the trunk...please:wink
I would suggest taking it to a parking lot and turning off your traction control and rev the engine to about 3000-3500 rpms and then drop that cluth and floor it...if you can't feel the difference between the two I'd open the hood and make sure they didn't put an eco-boost in there by mistake?
Having said all this I do freely admit that the 15 was too quiet for me and I had a Roush axel back exhaust put on to make it sound like it should.
This has just been my 2 cents worth but rest assured your '15 is leaps and bounds better than your '07 as far as performance.
By the way---you have 2 great looking cars!
Here are ours..
"BMW" and "quality" never go together in the same sentence. Ever. After owning some, including two new MINI Countryman cars bought brand new a few years ago, I will never let one sit in my driveway again. Utter and complete garbage. We still have one BMW left...step-son is driving it...it's got 68,000 miles on it and it's had interior panels fall apart, headlights stopped working randomly at times, rear differential is currently going shot and is making a horrible noise, paint is peeling, O2 sensors dead, etc. Oh, and every thing on it is twice as expensive to replace and is a nightmare to repair which requires a professional circus contortionist to be able to reach. There will never be another piece of Euro trash in my driveway ever again. #overrated
Now...moving along...
People in the Jeep Wrangler world complain about the Wrangler becoming too "civilized" with each generation. The same can be said for the Mustang. The fox body cars were slower than molasses on a January morning...but they FELT amazing and powerful. The noises. The brash nature of the interior. The size. The switches and controls. The road noise. The feel you got when you fired one up and took it down the road...it FELT like a muscle car. The SN95/New Edge cars got more streamlined bodies but the platform was the same and the interior and feel was still rough and tough. Simple, cheap, and fun to drive. That's what a pony/muscle car is supposed to be.
Now days the Mustang is just as refined as a Toyota Camry. It's ridiculous. You no longer get that feel...that feel that you're behind the wheel of a serious machine. Sure, the 5.0 cars of today are much faster. But it's not an in-your-face experience anymore. It's too luxurious, too quiet, too roomy, too soft, too everything... It's like getting into any other car, minus two doors.
I think that's why the OP is experiencing what he's experiencing. It's not that the new car is slower. It's that like he said, it FEELS slower.
Yep, it's like two completely different types of car. I guess I just miss that muscle car feeling. Like I said, I still love this one. I really need to get out on a country road and cut it lose. I live just outside of DC and there aren't a lot of places I can go to really drive it. BTW, the clutch in this thing is sooooo much nicer in traffic. The old one would totally destroy my hip when stuck in traffic. This one, I can be stuck in DC traffic for an hour and hardly notice it. Also, what's your take on my drive mode question?
I have a GT base model with Performance Package and all you get is the traction control (on/off) button and steering response from Normal, comfort and sport mode. All this does is loosen or tighten the steering geometry of the car. It does not change throttle response.....that's what the 3.73 gears and 435hp do...ha ha
The steering modes of the 2015 Ford Mustang GT and EcoBoost models will give the driver their choice of Comfort, Normal and Sport. Comfort requires the least amount of driver input while Sport requires the most driver input – while also offering the most feedback to the driver. Sport gives the driver the most connected feel with the Mustang and Normal steering mode will be a balance between the softness of Comfort and the stiffness of Sport.
This is ALL steering input and nothing more on the base GT with the 3 buttons below the A/C controls.
The GT Premium, you have, offers 4 toggle switches with an additional toggle switch for "drive modes".
The drive modes allow the driver to pick between Wet/Snow, Normal, Sport and Track with the system adjusting the stability control, traction control, throttle response and shift points (automatic only) of the S550 Mustang with either the 5.0L V8 or the 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder. Wet/Snow will dial back the throttle response to help cut back on wheel spin in rough conditions while also easing back on the sensitivity of the traction control system to let the wheels spin just a bit to help the Mustang dig out of the snow. Sport mode will sharpen the throttle response, increase the shift RPM in automatic models, vastly cut back the action of the throttle response and allow more yaw (vehicle angle relative to the direction of the car) while Track mode will offer the sharpest throttle response and shift points while disabling the most traction control and allowing the most yaw before the stability control engages.
In essence, I don't think you'd notice much as far as driving it in a normal day to day type trip but your steering should feel "tighter" and your throttle response when you "get on it" should feel "quicker".
Hope this helps.

I have an 07GT with some nice mods. I drove my friends stock 13 GT and it felt slower and not as muscle car like. I let him drive mine and he even said mine felt raw and more like a muscle car. I like my car even if its only putting out 370 crank hp.
Feeling a difference in power is usually a difference in what gear each car is running. I had an '07' and now a '15, can't really compare because both blown and different gearing.
Dave
I had an 08 GT. I enjoyed it and it was quick but nothing like my new 15 GT. It's been a few years since I had the 08 but I remember the car and how it performed and my 15 feels night and day stronger than that 08 did. If a 4.6 car has some heavy mods done to it, I could understand it feeling stronger but stock vs stock I don't see how 135 more hp and almost 100 more lb/ft of torque can not feel faster. Anyway, OP best of luck with your 15.
I had a 2011 V6 with some mods and it seemed to have more pep that my 15 because it had 373 gears, race tune etc. But after driving my 15 man was I wrong. Mine only has 900 miles on it but the more I drive it the stronger it seems to get. I have not done any performance mods yet and I am not sure if I will because car is fast enough for me right now. Although I do have 550.00 burning a hole in my pocket right now.> With that said and I am not trying to be smart but a good test should have told you what you needed to know. My salesman told me to drive it like I stole it and I did. Put a smile on my face even with the 315 gear which I really would like to change if I can find someone to do it right. I had a bad experience with the gear swap in my V6 it whined until the day I traded it. The shop came highly recommended but the work was sub-standard. If I do change the gears I will probably bite the bullet and let the ford dealer do it. :crying: Keep driving, make a few mods because this is a great car.
I do understand what you are saying. haha I own a 06 GT and to be honest the first time I test drove a 15 GT I went home and talked with a friend about it when he asked what I thought I told him I liked the interior and exterior was pretty good, BUT as far as performance it didn't feel as fast as my 06 GT. Now I knew by watching the speedometer of the 15 that it was indeed faster, but it was missing that harsh muscle car fast feeling. Why? Well I say it is the independent suspension and other ride quality enhancements that were all done to please and give the non muscle car people a chance to like the Mustang as a smooth riding DD.
I mentioned my thoughts to the dealer on one of the 100 follow up calls on why I am not buying and when I told him the above he backed my thoughts up and said yes they made this car feel more comfortable and less harsh for the everyday buyer. Then proceed to tell me the GT350 and GT350R were tailored to the driver like myself that likes the harsh, loud, and muscle car feeling.
Now to just wait a couple years until the price falls to something I am comfortable spending on a FORD Mustang. Don't get me wrong the price of them is not as bad as I thought it would be, but I just can't justify spending 50+ on a FORD. I know some people might light me up over that statement, but while Ford really did a good job on the 15 Mustang they didn't bring it up to par for the price ranges they are in.
-Take the base GT at 30K that is a really good deal for the performance, but that is all you get.
-The 40K for a GT Premium is ok, but look at the other cars in that range.
-The 50K+ for the GT350 and the what 70K+ for the GT350R puts you in Porsche territory.
The base price......that's right, the base price, for a 911 Carrera S is $103,400.00, and they're not as fast as a GT350R will be. Well, I seriously doubt one would be faster than a GT350R.
I'm screwing around building a Carrera S the way I would want it. It's right around $140,000.00
I'm a little late on this but ill put my input in. When I raced my pops 15 GT on the highway it was stock, My 09 GT was intake and tune. we went from a 40 roll and he only held half a car ahead of me and in the end only had 2 cars on me pushing 115 when we cut it off. He would of kept pulling if we kept going the 4v just breaths so much better on top end but overall I was impressed with how my car did. When I drove his 15 it was definitely quicker but didn't feel 100hp different if that makes sense.. But in the coyotes defense they are pulling crazy good times at the strip. Prior to his 15 GT he had an 11 GT which felt WAYY faster then mine and stronger then his 15. Is your 4.6 loud like all exhaust? Sometimes exhaust can give you a mental edge and make the car feel faster. But your 15 is definitely quicker then your 07
I think what's happening is the S550 is so refined, Ford has created a world class muscle car that drives and sounds like a fine tuned Lincoln town car! Ford had to make the S550 pass world noise reduction laws in many countries, ya it sucks we here in the US of A don't get our own muscle car, but it's 2015, times have changed. Put it this way, our GT's have 435hp at the crank with 5.0L engine, 3800lbs, running 12.9 1/4mi times, at $35k! The Chevy corvette has 455hp with 6.2L engine in a 3200lb car running 12.2-12.5 1/4mi at $56k! With a simple dyno tune our GT's are at 455hp and running mid 12's 1/4mi ! I think the S550 Mustang is simply a world class sports car that has surprised its critics and we mustang owners as well!
I totally understand the OP... yet I still can´t say for sure if the 15 is really slower than my 14 convertible, or is it just that you can´t feel the car speeding.
Both my cars have the 5.0 and auto, yet in the 14 you can definitely feel that push against the back seat when stepping on the last pedal, and in the 15 I don´t feel a thing at all.
This 2015 is too refined and quiet. I can live with the refinement but I still don´t warm up or get used to how quiet the exhaust is
