Reason: added some
$175 is the difference. Price is somewhere around $350 plus with cats, about half that without. Platinum is pricey.
Oh I see, gotcha now lol...but of course I have to buy a tuner first before that then I guess I'll buy the headers then the x-pipe after that...just need to find the $$$ to do it b/c things aren't cheap these days anymore...it sucks lol
Ah, that is the price for the cats only - is that $60 per cat, or for the pair? Still, a good price. They are making them smaller and cheaper than ever.
I checked the price for the midpipes, both with cats and off road, and the nice Pypes offroad set was $165-189 on American Muscle, while similar catted sets were in the $300-400 bracket. I think the SS mid pipes are the way to go, but it might be interesting to go with "test pipes" until you need the cats, though I still think its just a better idea to go legal from the get go.

The idea is that you have the cats neatly cut out of the mid pipes, and straight pipes made (any muffler shop can do this) that bolt up in their place. You usually also have a pair of small pipes that allow the cats to be re-inserted as needed.
This is also done to avoid running cats between trips to the smog test, which is of course illegal in most states.
The term "test" I think comes from the "test and tune" sessions held at drag strips and race tracks.
This process was a lot more meaningful for the older cars, where the cats caused a LOT of restriction and their elimination freed up considerable power. More modern Mustangs have pretty good exhausts, even with the cats, and the gains are modest...
UNLESS you have a built motor perhaps getting a ton of boost, in which case the cats (particularly the stock cats) become a bottleneck.

hey just wanted to know in the frist part of the thread some one said u need a tune when u put long tubes on, whys it need tuned
Well I'm guessing you need a tuner b/c when you install the new LT headers then your car needs to get used to the new part that was just installed. With that happening it'll be able to realize the new amount of airflow that is going through the exhaust and your engine breathes better, which of course in the end results in more HP and a faster car. Also, not to mention the HP you gain from the tuner also.
If I'm not totally correct on this I'm sure someone will back me up ont this lol.

Oh alright gotcha. I know what the test and tune is at the strip but I didnt know if the test pipe was something different or not. How much HP do you gain though from a "good" LT and a "good" x-pipe cats or not and a tuner that gives you about 20-30 HP: we'll just say about 25 HP...
