Long Tube Header's or Short Tube Header's, 2001 Mustang GT
Hi, I have a 2001 Mustang GT. Which is better to get with a flowmaster american thunder cat-back exhaust: Long Tube Header's or Short Tube Header's? Any info would be great thanks!!!
shortys for sure. The long tubes are a pain to get in and if you ever have to pull the transmission it is a headache to do because the long tubes are in the way.
If you looking for performance verses future eaze of maintenance, the long tubes. Long tubes with short H pipes and and cats. This is being installed on my 1999 GT as of this writing. I spoke with many pro's (they know more than I do) and they all say long tubes.
if your looing for hp gains shortys are a waste of money. we have beat this to death already. they both are a pain in the ass to install if your going to go through with it do the long tubes.

Alright thanks!!! Looks like I'll be buying the Long Tube Headers then!!! One more thing what is the best company to go with that gives good HP gains but is not so expensive?
HP gains are about the same - 20 hp - with the major manufacturers.
MAC or BBK would be two brand names that are relatively inexpensive.
Go with the coated LT's, it helps a lot with the heat, and they perform just a little bit better.
Cost installed for both: About $1500. Not a good bang for the buck in my book. (We have heard that Meineke will install both for $350, which is a good buy).

And... don't get mild steel. You need to get either T304 or T409 stainless to prevent rusting. Coated mild steel headers will eventually peel and rust.

Ok thanks for the help I appreciate it a lot, so much easier coming from people that know what they're talking about.

Alright cool, and the new headers will make the exhaust even louder, im guessing? and should I get catted or o/r x-pipes?
+1... Catted is a little easier on the ear. Less crackling/popping on deceleration.
I know a guy who was mad because his catted x didn't snap, crackle and pop. Ended up swapping in some adapter pipes and pulling off the cats (he bolts them back on for emissions).
I agree with you.

Alright sounds good, ya b/c i hate having 4 cats, I feel bad for the 96-99 stang gt's also they have 6 cats on the stock exhaust which is horrible if you want a good sounding stock exhaust at all...but back to my car lol, but the catted x-pipes have only 2 cats correct?
