The $3400 Bullitt option is a screaming bargain. Look at what you get for the money...
1. GT500 Seats and Steering wheel. Go no further. Swapping these into a new GT costs over $3000 right there. And my primary hit on the new GT IS the seats. All the other items I'm about to list are gravy...
2. 3.73 gears. All these cars should have more gear from the factory. Worth $500.
3. Bullitt/SLIGHTLY lowered suspension. Nice upgrades, but yes, I'd have preferred a 1" lower result. The firmer shocks and and spring rates (with assorted other subtle changes) make the car handle similar to the Shelby GT, but ride similar to the standard GT. Just about the optimum compromise, imo. And yes, swapping this suspension into a GT costs about $1000.
4. FRPP Go Pack (sort of - the Bullitt version is slightly different). This adds the little 15hp power bump, and enjoys a full factory warranty of course. True, any dealer could install one of these on any GT (someone who has done this can post the cost, but I would think its over $1000).
5. 18" Bullitt wheels and tires. I like them, but others won't. Subjective call. Putting these on your base GT would run you about $1400.
6. Fluid dampner. Adds a tad of power, and prolongs the life of the motor.
7. Dual zone sensors (NOT the correct Ford term, but I hope you can get the idea from the description) and adaptive program. Ford plans to add these to all their performance vehicles in 2009, or maybe 2010. Allows the Bullitt to sense which fuel you are running, and adapt to it to extract better performance.
8. Unique grill and front bumper cover, some bright bits here and there, machine turned dash is cool, pedal covers, painted brake calipers, nice upgraded shifter similar to the Shelby GT, etc, etc. Limited to 7700 editions, green or black.
Subtle, and not to everyone's taste.
I like it a lot.
Very good value. It would cost $10k to update a standard GT to a Bullitt "clone" (easiest would be to start with a black GT, of course).
Someone will do this, inevitably, but I think it makes more sense just to buy one of the real ones.

It sounds like an overall good factory car with a nice combination of power and handling. I'm not looking to mod out a vehicle anyway because I would have to farm most of it out and I'd rather keep the car close with me. I have had a majority of flashy cars, my Torrid Red GTO is bright enough to get attention. You can hear it before you see it though.
Anyway, I like the idea of a sleeper car as the Bullitt and the styling is nice enough to keep you interested.
Hopefully I hear its a green one coming in for 32000- then I'll be back with pics.
No, I don't think they'll give a weekend in the Bullitt stlwagon. When cars are in demand forget about it. |
