Default Cams and Heads

The selection of aftermarket intakes for our cars is rather sparce.

There's the FoxLake P51, the Typhoon, the new Trick Flow intake, etc.

They are all pretty pricey, and add modest power (though they will handle nitrous unlike the stock plastic). Discounts on these few items are hard to find and very shallow, so expect to pay between $600 and $800.

Another option is the 2001 Bullitt intake, which works very well, but is also rare and expensive.

Reworked PI heads are pretty common, and work very nicely, but there are as yet no aftermarket heads (such as there are for the 5.0) except for Ford's own SVO's.

Ported and polished heads will cost you about $1200 - $1600 exchanged, with some companies selling theirs WITHOUT exchange from time to time. FoxLake will port and polish yours for about $750-800 plus shipping, and does an excellent job. If your car has high miles, I'd recommend finding a deal for the fully rebuilt heads with the larger valves available from Livernois, Fox Lake, etc.

Patriot is probably the low-price leader in the group, and I've noticed some discounting of their stuff lately. They also offer a 6.00 valvetrain vs the 5.50 the other guys use. They are dogged with a history of spotty quality control from a few years back, but I've heard better things from them recently.

As for Cams, I like Comp Cams, while others prefer VT (both companies are competent), and others stick with Crane. Cam selection all depends on what you are expecting from the car, and what sort of goal you are shooting for.

Sorry, I don't have all these companies URL's memorized, but a quick search will find them.

I encourage you to do some soul-searching about where you want to go long term with the car BEFORE you start spending money and slapping parts on it.
