Well taking all the comments in to considerations - it's up to what you.
What do you want out of the car. If you're going to mod it, the DOHC is a great platform to build on.

If the insurance costs are a consideration the S/C GT can be made very fast with the same mod budget.

Either way, good luck.

Very true, the money saved from insurance can be used to do the headswap, reistall the blower and you'll kick that Cobra's ass.

Sorry but you will not save that much money. When I went from my 97 GT to a 99 Cobra my insurance went up 20 bucks. Last I checked a PI headswap cost more then that.

You seem to be an exception, the couple people I've talked to said theres jumped up considerably from the GT to the Cobra. But this is based on what I've heard. And yes, PI headswap cost more than 20 bucks, I think you really know what I meant.

Get a V6 and overly modify it like everyone else, then complain that it's not giving real power like a GT. LOL
I'm sorry, just being a little sarcastic tonight.

*****UPDATE****

I would like to thank all of the informative comments...and I ended up purchasing the Cobra on the 24th of February--named her Gabrielle. Man, I am in love with her.

As for the insurance, I switched my other two vehicles and the mustang to GEICO from Allstate. For the mustang alone, I saved $1,000 per year and about $500 for the other vehicles...with better coverage.

As I previously mentioned, it came with the rims (back-18x9; front-18x8)and tires, 4.10 gears, K&N air filter, cold air intake, and after market exhaust (can't figure out the brand). According to the previous owner, he has added about 20 more horsepower.

Thanks again fellow mustang community members.

I'm glad to hear you are happy with your 97 Cobra! That is
a awesome machine in my opnion. The 97 GT you were
talking about was great to I bet.Come by AFM sometime.
In my opnion I would NEVER can ALLSTATE for Geico to
save money because I belive they will cover you better
than Geico ever would but,it your choice in the matter.
I wish you the best of luck with your 97 Cobra!

Regarding RWHP > my '96 SVT stock Cobra measured 260 on the dyno, and when I questioned the number, considering it to be low, the Dyno Dude explained that the dyno data runs about 85% of the Engine Lab Test data (engine is out of the car, sitting on a stand in a sound-proof room), which Ford advertises.

So, if you divide 260 by .85 (260/.85), you get 305.9 HP. That's very close to the advertised 305 HP for this car. Seems to make sense to me, given all the possible HP losses involved in dyno testing at the rear wheels of the car.
