Default 1996 GT Convertible 5 speed Console Removal

I want to install a new center console in my 96 GT 'Vert. I already have a new one waiting, but I need to know how to get the old one out before I start breaking off all the little plastic clips and whatever else is hidden under there that holds everything together. My car is a 5 speed, if that matters (it probably does). It's also a convertible, so I want to make sure that every screw and fastener is accounted for, since the interior rattle quotient is considerably higher with a drop top.

Thank you, oh wise ones.

Pete

Get a repair manual from a parts store for the 94-04 Mustang. It will have how to take the entire car apart, let alone the dash. If not look for a Ford Dealership manual, but those might cost more.

Here goes I will try to remember just what it took to to get mine ouyt of my 97 speedester same as gt. you have several phillipshead screws on the out side along the side. you also have 1 or 2 inside the console box. you have a screw to remove under the ashtray also ahve a electric connection to un plug. when you lift up the console you will have to remove the bolt that holds the gear shift shaft to the trans houseing. That should do it. I am over working in Kuwait so I cant go look at my car to refresh my memory.

Default Thanks...done

Thanks for the replies. I ended up just getting in there and figuring it out for myself. The key is removing the plastic piece that surrounds the shifter boot. Then it's really just 2 torx screws up front and 2 under the console box, as well as the disconnection of the electrical stuff.

If anyone else needs help with this project, hit me up and I'll let you know exactly how it's done. I just swapped my console out a few days ago, so it's all still fresh in my mind.
