Hey guys. I have a 1997 Mustang Gt(5 speed) with a door sticker showing axle (E) code. What does this transilate into gear ratio. I am the 2nd owner and trying to figure out what ratio I have. At 70 mph the tach shows 2100-2200 rpms in 5th gear. Any help or links would be appreciated. Thanks
On the pumpkin, there should be a metal tag. It's usually at about th 2:00 position viewed looking forward from the rear. The first set of numbers on the second line is your ratio. Mine is an automatic, so it's a 2.73. My tag reads 2L 73 meanining it is a limited slip. Hope this helps...even though you have to crawl under the car...At least you will know for sure, even if it got changed out somewhere along the line so the code doesn't match.
Cool. Thanks for the great information. I checked the tag and shows 3L 27. I assume means 3.27 limited slip. Does not appear differential cover has been touched for a gear swap out. Well least it gives a starting point. Thanks again GTjetman.
