Crate Engine cam indexing Has anyone had any problems with a new Ford small block crate engine, and cam indexing? I noticed that using rocker position, and the timing mark on the damper pulley, that the engine would not start. After mucking around for a while, I went the old school way, of rocker position and the pencil through the spark plug hole to find TDC method. Reset the distributor to that, and it runs. The timing mark is ~90 degrees away from the pointer.
REALLY don't want to pull the unit, as it was a tight fit into a Datsun 240Z, it runs and all, but I'm planning the next winter project, and this looks like it might be it.
