I wouldnt say that motive gears are crap. But i havent had any problems with my FRPP 3.73 gears and dont have any gear whine and i like them. A lot does have to do with how well they are installed. If not installed just right, ya can get whine from any gears.

Like I stated earlier Frp Gears are made by Motive...Frp's are a lil lower quality then Motive...Because the Motive gears go threw a extra hardening process witch makes them capable of handleing more hp and torque!!...and if any gear is installed correctly they won't whine at all.

On the box the gears came in it says they need a break in period. Do they? If so how long?

i didn't have any whine out my FRPP 3.73's i had installed in may, however that changed 2 weeks ago when the ring bolts decided to come out and tear my rear end up.

anyhow that said, the best gears you can get are Moser Gears.

Moser Engineering

any gear that is properly setup will not whine, even the Richmonds won't. if they whine, someone did a crappy job.

they may not need a break in period, but most gear manufacturers recommend at least 500 miles to establish a consistent wear pattern, and most will not warranty gears that fail if you didn't follow the recommendation for breaking them in.
