I broke up with the girlfriend after almost four years and I am looking to do something for myself now.
I am looking at getting a 1999-2004 Mustang GT, but I am wondering if I should get a stick or automatic. I have driven both, but the stick was an 2001 GT with a 2003 Cobra 6 speed transmission and a Vortec supercharger. Needless to say it was awesome! The automatic was a 2004 GT and was stock and an automatic. It was quicker then my Pontiac G6, but it really didnt compare to the 2001.
I am not going buying it to race and I will not be romping on it all the time, but I do want something with great power when I want it.
If I do some basic mods to the automatic is it going to be worth it or will I be more happy with the stick in the end. I know everyone has a different opinion, but thats what I am looking for.
i would go with the stick. driving automatics get boring in my opinion and you just dont get the same feel out of it as you do with a stick. not to mention with the stick, you can use your money to upgrade the engine instead of havign to waste money trying to upgrade the auto

Next summer looking to go with:
Bilstien shocks + struts, Lowering springs (brand still TBD (any suggestions?)), MM CC plates, front + rear sway bars, subframes, and upper and lower control arms.
Time to make the pony ride some rails
I also like the stick. I drove an auto for 2 years and then switched to a 5 speed and I love it. Whenever I have to drive an auto now I get bored. I say 5 speed all the way.

It depends on the person. But as for me and my car I will drive the stick. I will not have a auto I just don't like them unless it's in a family car. Both my cars and my truck are sticks. Id have it no other way... I like to tell my car what gear to be in when I want it in it.
i would go with a stick also. not bad mouthing anybody with an auto, but to me whats the point of having a sports car if its not a stick....takes half the fun out of driving it

I'm old and got tired of sticks. A stock gt auto is rather sluggish but once i got my gears and tune for pressure and shift points it was like night and day. I go to the local track frequently and have better times then most sticks with near stock motors. I feel you can control the traction better and never miss a gear. You cant shift faster than an auto in my opinion. Downshifting in a auto sucks though.

I would go with the stick. But both do have there ups and down, but in the end i think a stick is a lot more fun, you have more control of the car and just feel more powerful to me. And ya can show off more in a stick too.

I would get the stick unless you are driving completely in stop and go traffic (1st and 2nd gear all the time). I get bored driving autos. Plus with the stick you are putting more hp to the ground than with an auto.
That’s just me, it’s your car and you are the one who will be driving it, not me.

My 79 is an auto and for just driving around its fine, plus you can put the petal to the floor and go! (again I do have a 300hp 5.0 and a performance auto) SO, the GT might be a little more sluggish, never been in one that I can remember.
Now the Mach 1 is a stick and it is SO much fun to drive. I love to do the old 1-2 power shift. Anyway, a stick offers more power, better fuel economy (if you dont have the gas on the flooe all the time), and IMO more fun. Besides you seem more like a car guy if you have a stick because most people no a days cant drive them. So, go with what makes you happy, but I say stick it.
