Basically, I want to know what makes the LS motors as good as they are. And also, why is the 03/04 Cobra motor as good as it is.

As far as the LS , Im sure it's under rated

LS motors- Larger displacement, generally better airflow, and factory aluminum heads.
03 Cobras- Supercharger, Modular motor (OverHead Cam) and a redesign of the heads from the 96-98's
The LS series is no doubt a good setup, be it 1,6,or X. But the competition was 350 VS 302 instead of 351's. When Chevy dropped to 346's, Stangs responded by doing SOHC or DOCH (sock and dock) motors, but they also went to 281 displacement. while more efficient, I want a kick-ass 302 DOHC motor in the next launch of the Mustang that will stave off the new Camaros.. Not saying they are'nt pretty sweet, but I like competition.. It keeps things fair in politics,gambling,business,cars, and even in Home Owners Associations.

LS Engine- Same as corvette(EXCEPT Z06) except tune and cam profile its under rated because if they sold it at the same rating no one would buy the vette
