Default 1996 Mustang GT smog help needed!

Im from San Jose, ca. I bought a 96 GT but the previous owner hollowed out the cats on it. Does anyone know how many cats need to be good in order to pass smog in California. Thanks for any help.

Thanks,
Josh

i have a 96 GT as well and when i baught the car it had 6 cats, 3 on each side of the h-pipes. i switched them out and put a full exhauts on it allong with 2 high-flow cats getting rid of all stock cats and going from 6 stock to 2 aftermarket ones. i live in CT so our emmitions are diff. most likely the hollowed out cats u have will not pass. my sugestion is to go on some websights that sell exhaust and look for cats. make sure they say 50 state legal and if u cant find that, buy universal fit cats. they are supposto pass in all 50 states. just get the size of ur pipeing and match it with a cat online and order them up. cut the old ones out and weld the new ones in there place. then u should be golden. the cats shouldnt be more than 200.

Default thanks

Thanks for the tip. Yea the CA emissions laws suck. I know it would have been so much cheaper if he had jus swapped out the h-pipe. Yea I already failed one smog test. Well if you know any1 that has a h-pipe for sale let me know.

Thanks,
Josh
