Tire Tech Information - Air Pressure: When and How to Set

Good data about how temps affect pressure.

After operating at high speed on a hot day, the pressures SHOULD be higher.

Always check the pressure with the tires cold with the car cool.

Follow the specs from the manufacturer.

UPDATE: Checked that tire, Michelin recommends max cold pressure of 51psi. Unusually high, easy to understand why the tech had only 36 (35 is max on most tires).

If you are happy with the ride, stick with 51 cold.

If you want a softer ride, you could try 45 (about 10% less).

For maximum traction and wear you should mark your tires across the tread with chalk in several places after setting all night. Then drive your car several blocks at a normal pace and check the marks. If the chalk is gone in the middle of the tire the pressure is too high and if the marks are gone on the edges but still present in the center the pressure is too low. Adjust accordingly and retest until you get even contact all across the tread. If the tires get hot during the testing then you should let them cool again before continueing with the test. This method insures the tires are adjusted properly for your car as it is driven.

Put Nitrogen in your tires. The cold or heat does not effect the pressure ever. Can be costly but helps. That is what they fill airplane tires with.
