Default paxton novi 1000??? and gear whine

i've searched tons of threads and cant find aything on the paxton novi 1000, is it any good? i've found them to be pretty cheap and im only looking for roughly around 350-375 whp... and as for the gear whine, i had motive 4.10s installed right before i left for basic, the mechanic who did it said they're noisy just because they're motive, and at the time i didnt know anything about gears, so i had them installed anyway... that was april and i just now got my car in tech school, hasnt been driven since, the gears are awesome but the whine doesnt sound good at all, and i drive 350 miles every other weekend(still average 26 mpg) but im worried about the rearend going out, is this a problem or is it common, or should i burn down the place that installed them? (no place in my town would offer a warranty with them either) any info would be much appreciated thanks

Default Gears

There is no real way to answer your guestion. I just had 4.30 gears installed on my GT and they whine on the drive side and when i'm coasting. But they say used gear sets whine bcuse of the wear pattern. The guy who put my gears in said im going to have a loud whine bcuse of the different pattern on the ring gear. A whine is not always a bad thing. On another car I had I had a new gear set installed which was a Ford racing [which is supposed to be the quietist] and they had a whine on the drive side. The only thing I can suggest is take off the rear cover and look at the wear pattern on your ring gear. If the pattern isn't somewhat near the center on the ring gear then the person who put your gear in didn't know what the hell they were doing. Another way to check for a rear end that isn't set up correctly is to look at the ring gear. The teeth on the edge of the ring gear should be somewhat squared off. If the end of the teeth are razor sharp the gear set was installed incorrectly.

by looking for 350-375hp your only upgrading by 100....TOPS. The 4.6 is a strong engine already and you could do that for less then paying for a paxton and installation. If thats all you want just get a good tune, CAI, Full Corsca Exhaust, and a 150 dry shot....theres your 100+ hp. Plus the exhaust sounds sweet.
